“It all starts with acknowledging that God is our creator. And it is from God that we receive our values and our principles.

“The founding fathers knew this. They put it in all the foundational documents of this country, of course, including the Declaration of Independence. which says that we are all endowed by our creator.

“Now it doesn’t say that God gave the rights to government and in turn gave them to us, it says God gave them to us as certain unalienable rights.

“In Minnesota, another example of this in the preamble to the Constitution inn Minnesota, the very first sentence, the very first words that the founders of our state uttered in this foundational document says this: ‘We the people of Minnesota, grateful to God for our out civil and religious liberties.’

“The first thing they did in the first set of documents for our state was to acknowledge and express appreciation for our creator God.

“The freedom of religion protections in the United States Constitution were designed to protect people of faith from government not government from people of faith.

“Faith in God is not some minority political movement or political party. It is what our country was founded on.

“It is what a majority of Americans believe in. And it should be at the forefront and center of our values, our issues, our principles and the way we model ourselves as we move forward in the conservative movement.”

He also gave a nod to the religious right on the issue of same-sex marriage:

“A traditional family with two parents in it is unquestionably, undeniably, statistically the best environment for children to be born and raised in this nation and in this world. We don’t have to make apologies for being a pro-family movement. It is a core principle. It is what is right for our children, It is what is right for our future.”
