Rep. Michele Bachmann warned today that President Obama is turning America into a socialist state, according to a CNN report. In other news, Jim Ragsdale at the Pioneer Press says that Bachmann tends to exaggerate… a lot.
From CNN:
“What we’ve seen them do in the last five weeks is nothing short of a great leap forward toward [then] finalizing a place of socialism in American economic life,” Bachmann told radio host G. Gordon Liddy. “We have never seen this level of socialism in the history of our country, and I think the American people would be floored when they understand the dramatic steps that Obama has taken for our future.”
Bachmann called for a “a growth future, a prosperity future, a freedom liberty future.”
“Will we be a country that will go forward with liberty, freedom and prosperity, or will we be a country that’s mired in Eastern European, Western European doldrums, where freedom is limited and taxation remains high?” she asked.
Pioneer Press’ Jim Ragsdale:
[O]ur Republican congresswoman from Stillwater, is the empress of exaggeration.
She can turn a mote of dust into a flaming meteorite, a scintilla of evidence into a damning indictment, a stimulus bill into a payoff to felonious urban ruffians. I have heard her describe the faults of Minnesota graduation standards and vocational training in such a way that they appeared not just dumb, but damnation-worthy.
She once created a new Iranian sub-nation out of whole cloth, which some clever person dubbed Bachmannistan, and the last time I saw her in person, her attempt to find Democrats to blame for the foreclosure crisis led her to the obvious culprit: Jimmy Carter, who left office in 1981.

Just to be clear, Jim Ragsdale says this, not the Pioneer Press. I can’t conceive of the right-leaning editorial board saying the same thing. It’s a small point I admit, but I’ve seen conservatives support a point by claiming newspapers said something, when in fact it was one columnist or even a letter writer who said it.
Anyway, Bachmann is right, who wants to be western Europe, with that silly high standard of living and all. Going bankrupt over medical bills, now that’s freedom!

The looks of Mary Tyler Moore, the mouth of Joe McCarthy and the mind of Ted Haggard all packaged into one effective little instrument of demagoguery.
This fierce opponent of socialism has spent most of her working life in government jobs. Her current job carries a salary of $174,000 per year and includes the government funded health care and retirement benefits package that she works zealously to make sure the rest of us don’t get.
Republicans need to turn their backs on this woman. The party of Lincoln has become the party of Limbaugh and it is in that environment that kooks like Bachmann fit in.

If socialism means Renewable energy , jobs for the middle class , equity in taxes , fiscally responsible … then someone needs to get an Unabiased dictionary…. The nut cases in her party have had an upper class elite socialism bracket for themselves for goin’ on 30 years because thats what they do for each other is share the wealth with their very small (minded) social bracket (thru backdoors mind you). I can’t even keep count on how many trillions in deficeits, starting with Regan Bush G and Bush W,that the middle class has had to pay back at a higher tax rates. Therefore having to pay more than the money suckin’ socialist elitists Neo-cons.

Socialism getting free health care. Not paying into retirement but receiving benefits. How about voting yourself pay raises. These are just a few things congress & senate do.
