The Helping Families Save Their Homes Act passed the U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday by a vote of 234-191, mostly by a partisan vote. Minnesota Reps. Michele Bachmann, Erik Paulsen and John Kline, all Republicans, voted against the measure, while Reps. Collin Peterson, James Oberstar, Tim Walz, Keith Ellison and Betty McCollum, all Democrats, voted for the bill. The bill passed, but not before Bachmann had her say.
The bill would allow bankruptcy judges to alter terms of mortgages for families that have filed for bankruptcy and face foreclosure. Bachmann spoke on the House floor: “This is beyond belief. It reminds me of that television show ‘Deal or no Deal’… It seems we are now in the business of turning normal Americans into crooks… These are graveyard economics.”

If this kind of statement came from anybody but Michele Bachmann, I’d ask for some explanation of what she is talking about. Having come from Michele Bachmann, I know she has no idea what she is talking about. Turning Americans into crooks because a law allows a bankruptcy judge to force a lender (a predatory lender at that) to renegotiate a mortgage as part of a bankruptcy plan? She’s just a pathetic liar-nutjob.

Didn’t I read somewhere that MN-06 has the highest foreclosure rate in Minnesota at this time? I wonder what her constituents would think about her calling them crooks for trying all they can to salvage their mortgages and remain in their homes rather than be cast out? Shame on Ms. Bachmann for siding with her GOP obstructionists and against people who are truly struggling out there to make ends meet. I wonder how she’d feel if SHE received a pink slip and her family’s home was facing foreclosure? Shame on her!

How the crazy Michele Bachmann ever got a single vote in the election is beyond me. What crooks did this to us?
