Campaign Notebook: Senate District 25 Republican Primary Today
Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at 7:30 am
Republican candidates will face off in a primary today in Senate District 25, covering parts of Rice, Le Sueur, Scott and Sibley counties in southwestern Minnesota.
Although former State Rep. Ray Cox has been endorsed by the SD25 GOP, he faces two other candidates, Keith Swenson of Henderson and Rod Tietz of New Prague. DFLer Kevin Dahle is unopposed for his party’s nomination. There is an independent listed on the Secretary of State’s website, Vance Norgaard, whose website would seem to position him somewhere on the liberal side of the spectrum, at least based on his favorite media personalities: Noam Chomsky, Amy Goodman, etc.
The special election is set for Jan. 3, which just happens to be the same day as the Iowa caucuses and the second day back on campus for St. Olaf and Carleton College students returning from break. DFLer Dahle said earlier this month that his campaign would engage students at both colleges to ensure that they are aware of and able to participate in the election.
