The most (only) substantive issue in this article is only mentioned tangentially – both candidates went to the rally (lynch mob) to cheer on Israel’s massacre in Gaza. One certainty in all of this is that the Courts will end up choosing a senator beholden to the Israel lobby and its support for Israeli apartheid and ethnic cleansing enabled by billions in US tax dollars and weapons.

After further reflection, I think there’s no “jewish” angle here. Whether Franken sounds Jewish or not, “Franken” is a name that is known favorably by many, whereas “Franklin” in this context is completely unknown. They just wanted to get the name wrong.

ICDogg, now that you mention it I believe I too have known Jewish people with the last name Franklin. But FWIW I still think Franklin sounds less like a name belonging to a Jewish person than does Franken.

I see a great (if not very on-topic) irony here.

In the movie “The Birdcage”, a daughter of a conservative senator seeks to conceal the Jewish heritage of her fiance from her family. Her fiance’s last name is “Goldman”, but to her family she says that her fiance’s last name is *Coleman*!

Problem solved – that doesn’t sound Jewish at all! :-)

I voted for Franklin. Crap. Maybe that’s why my vote got thrown out.
