Tom, nice work explaining an esoteric subject.

Is there a way to remove the toxins from fly ash, or is someone working on a method? Using ashes for fertilizer is an old practice. Wood ash, like in your home fireplace or charcoal grill, is good stuff to dump on your garden, so it makes sense that fly ash would be usable as fertilizer, were it free of toxins.

As far as using it as construction material and thereby encouraging the burning of coal, I don't buy that. There's no money in selling fly ash, The best coal burners can reasonably hope for is getting someone to take it off their hands for free. For the foreseeable future, coal will be a major source of electricity, and using it in concrete seems much greener than piling it up.

While the fly ash use in concrete for roads is OK but caution with other concrete uses in homes as the fly ash may contain 226 Radium that produces radon gas.
