Video: All the Capitol Hill fundraisers you can hit in a day

anp3Members of Congress spend one-quarter to one-third of their time raising money to run for re-election, says Harry Hanbury of the American News Project. That thought inspired him to take up a video camera and visit as many Capitol Hill fundraisers as he could in a single day (March 11, 2009), based on invitations leaked to the Web site Political Party Time. His seven-minute ”Roger and Me”-style romp — up posh townhouse steps and into (then escorted out of) gleaming hotel lobbies —  is after the jump.

The biggest-name figure Hanbury interviews is the Republican whip, Rep. Eric Cantor (R-Va.), seen entering a fundraiser at the Capitol Hill Club for newly elected Rep. Aaron Schock (R-Ill.), who at age 27 is the youngest member of Congress.

Coincidentally, or perhaps inevitably, Cantor was again the special guest at another fundraiser, again at the Capitol Hill Club, just three days ago — this time for Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.). Here’s the invitation posted at Political Party Time:

It would be great for the Congresswoman to release who attended the luncheon and how much the contributions were … that way we could help her make sure that those contributors did not get any undue benefits …. and heck, her potential re-election is only 20 months away which proves that’s its never too early to start doing the “lobbyist shakedown”. The poor dear must have forgotten that AIG contributed to her 2008 campaign … we know now that the taxpayers now are the majority owners of AIG …. some taxpayers may not like that our tax dollars are funding thier election campaigns.
