During a radio show on Saturday, Rep. Michele Bachmann described herself as a “foreign correspondent on enemy lines” in Washington, D.C. The Republican congresswoman went on to tell WWTC-AM:
I want people in Minnesota armed and dangerous on this issue of the energy tax because we need to fight back. Thomas Jefferson told us, having a revolution every now and then is a good thing, and the people — we the people — are going to have to fight back hard if we’re not going to lose our country. And I think this has the potential of changing the dynamic of freedom forever in the United States.
Audio after the jump.
Smart Politics notes it’s not the first time since the election of President Obama and a new Democrat-led Congress that Bachmann dubbed her conservative compatriots “foreign correspondents reporting to you from enemy lines.” The metaphor, combined with her “armed-and-dangerous” rhetoric, drifts close to Sean Hannity’s excited speculation about a militant right-wing reaction.
But if she sounded like any kind of journalist, it was a 1950s writer for the show-biz rag Variety. Here’s what she said about climate-change doubter Christopher Horner, who she is bringing to the Sixth District for two appearances in April: “He gave a boffo speech out in D.C. … people’s socks will be knocked off.”
Think Progress has the full audio from Bachmann’s Saturday appearance on WWTC-AM.
Here’s the key minute (h/t DumpBachmann):

violent opposition to regulating CO2 emissions?
violent opposition to returning money to the victimized middle class?

Imagine the outrage if some leftist/anarchist were to say the same things.
As much as I favor free speech for everyone, for a member of Congress to urge armed resistance against lawful actions of the US government crosses the line. Her speech is sedition, and (according to section 2383 of title 18 of the US Code), she is not only subject to being locked up for ten years, but she is “incapable of holding any office under the United States.”

It is curious that someone such as Ms. Bachmann, who espouses the virtues of Christianity, should use such violent terms as “armed and dangerous” to rally people to her cause. Tell me, what would Jesus do? Recall Sarah Palin’s shout out to the Prayer Warriors and the use by otherwise people of faith in all matters of race bating at McCain/Palin rallies. Perhaps Bachmann has joined the cause now promoted by Glenn Beck and Chuck Norris to secede from the Union. They would rather tear this country apart (or at least use rhetoric suggesting such) rather than try to work with the Obama Administration to fix the ills of this country. Nevermind that we are now reaping the greedy, corrupt, and asinine policies have been thrust upon us over years of Republican governance.
Tell you what, Ms. Bachmann, since you dub yourself a “foreign correspondent” perhaps that makes you ineligible to serve as a representative in the US House of Representatives. Obviously you consider Government as the enemy. Perhaps it is time for you to step aside and allow someone who has the best interest of her constituents at heart rather than her narrow-minded loyalties to the likes of Dobson, et al.
Your rhetoric only exposes your hypocrisy. Jesus would want us to feed the poor, help the disadvantaged among us, afford our neighbors a chance to find a job and keep their homes. He would not be coming in locked and loaded.

The “people” who voted for Bachmann should be ashamed of themselves.

So is she advocating a revolution? Can we assume she has declared war on the US government and is leading an armed rebellion? What a loser.

Someone is rewriting history again:
Only one problem with Bachmann’s speil. Jefferson was encouraging a revolt to stop free trade, which Bachmann supports.
QUOTE
Jefferson airs his sentiments in a letter to James Madison on January 30, 1787, expressing justification for the series of protests led by Daniel Shay and a group of 1,200 farmers.
Jefferson also writes of his concern over John Jay’s impending negotiations with Spain. Under consideration would be proposals to extend privileges in Spanish ports to American ships, while providing navigation rights on the Mississippi River to Spain.
In his letter to Madison, Jefferson expresses his belief that the agreement might be interpreted as opening up the Mississippi to Spanish rule, thus provoking a war between settlers in the west and Spain, and eventually, dividing the nation.

Bachmann already is dangerous, and she’s only armed with a bully pulpit.
I can’t wait until she starts to tell us who she actually wants shot.
