President Bush Coming to Minnesota Tomorrow
Monday, August 21, 2006 at 1:40 pm
The President is reported to be visiting Minnesota tomorrow for a policy address at a hospital in Burnsville followed by a fundraiser at the home of Jim and Joann Jundt in Wayzata. The details of the visit have been difficult to confirm but it is all but confirmed that the fundraiser is specifically for Congressional Candidate Michele Bachmann:
“We have five children and they are all excited,” said Bachmann, the GOP candidate for the U.S. House from Minnesota’s Sixth District. “They’re all going to have haircuts. … We’re going to get everybody there and just hope everyone smiles and is looking at the camera.” [Strib, 8/17/06]
Strangely enough, despite this published story Michele Bachmann’s campaign would neither confirm nor deny the event.
Not all Republicans are so excited about campaigning along side the Commander-in-Chief, however. The real question tomorrow may be whether or not candidate-in-trouble, Mark Kennedy will attend the fundraiser.
Over the course of his campaign Kennedy has appeared at fundraisers with (in chronological order) President Bush in Minnesota, President Bush in Florida, Dick Cheney, Laura Bush, and most recently, Karl Rove. Despite these notable events of the past, Kennedy’s taste for White House aid seems to be diminishing as we close in on the November election date. So it remains to be seen whether the troubled Congressman will be in Wayzata tomorrow or if he chooses to steer clear.
Turn down campaign cash or align yourself with the huge political liability you’re running away from, the choice is yours Mark.
