Sen. Joe Lieberman, I-Conn., says he will attend the Republican National Convention if Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., wins the Republican National Convention.
In a report by the Associated Press, Lieberman said he would not accept the nomination for vice president, but that he would attend the Republican convention. “I’d probably be more welcome there” than at the Democratic National Convention, Lieberman said.Lieberman ran for vice president as a Democrat in 2000, and sought the Democratic nomination for president in 2004. In 2006, he lost the Democratic senate primary in his home state of Connecticut, but won re-election as an independent. Lieberman caucuses with the Democrats in the Senate, but has been attacked by his erstwhile partisans for supporting the Bush administration’s Iraq policy.
