A new network TV comedy, NBC’s “Parks and Recreation,” premieres Thursday, April 9. Fans of the show’s star, Amy Poehler (late of “Saturday Night Live”), or of another NBC series, “The Office” (off of which “Parks and Recreation” is said to have spun), have their own reasons to watch. But anyone who has dealt with local government, particularly online, will enjoy a visit to the “Parks and Recreation” Web site. It’s a pitch-perfect, deadpan parody of a city Web site, down to the “Information Technology” page that’s under construction.
Refreshingly, the “Parks and Recreation” Web site appears to have absolutely no information about the TV show, except for a page devoted to Poehler’s character, City of Pawnee Deputy Director of Parks and Recreation Leslie Knope. So here’s a trailer for “Parks and Recreation,” which is coming soon to a city near you via network TV, whether your local government needs parody or already provides its own.
TV trivia: The fictional city of Pawnee, Ind., has an official seal that bears a slight resemblance to Minnesota’s state seal.

There is so much incompetence, corruption, and stupidity in local governent that I am sure there is enough material for years of shows. I look forward to this series.

Note that this post originally said the series would debut tonight, April 2. I know believe that’s wrong and the first show is next Thursday, April 9 (NBC is airing a full evening of ER programming tonight).

Odd comment about the Minnesota State Seal in the TV trivia section….”The fictional city of Pawnee, Ind., has an official seal that bears a slight resemblance to Minnesota’s state seal.”
If you would look at Indiana State Seal, there is a man chopping down a tree, and a Bison leaping to the left. I thought the humor was that the Pawnee, Indiana seal was tongue-in-cheek directed to Indiana by showing a “felled forest” and a “dead bison.”
I don’t see any Minnesota connection at all…. other than most state seals are round.
