Religious right watch: Family group targets ‘Family Guy’

image002 The FOX hit “Family Guy” is in the crosshairs of a religious right group, while Obama finds himself dressed up in a Nazi uniform. Minnesota’s religious right is pleased that religious right groups support abstinence-only sex education.

Family Guy not family enough

Donald E. Wildmon, founder and chairman of the American Family Association, wants the popular sitcom “Family Guy” fined for indecency.

“On March 8, Fox network aired Family Guy, a perverted and sickening program, into the homes of millions of Americans,” wrote Wildmon in an e-mail to supporters this week.

“The content of this program was so explicit that I can’t even begin to describe it here,” he wrote. “You really cannot get the full effect of the show’s portrayal of Christianity without watching the video.”

The Minnesota Independent agrees. Enjoy this collection of clips from “Family Guy” courtesy of the American Family Association.

“The FCC has a duty to enforce the law and fine Fox for this sickening violation of broadcast decency standards,” wrote Wildmon. “In addition, your local FOX network affiliate did not have to air this episode. Obviously, they do not care about your local community standards.”

Obama’s Nazi Army?

The Traditional Values Coalition thinks that President Obama’s community services initiatives are just the president laying the groundwork for a Nazi takeover of America. Here’s the image they use to make that point:

Religious right group surprised that religious right group is not left

“A national organization of pediatricians, the American College of Pediatricians came out with a surprisingly strong endorsement of abstinence education,” wrote Tom Prichard of the Minnesota Family Council. “I say surprisingly because most professional organizations are usually to the left on controversial topics like abstinence.”

Surprisingly, the American College of Pediatricians is a religious right breakaway group from the American Academy of Pediatrics. They are mainly concerned with opposing gay marriage, gay adoption, abortion and medical marijuana.

Even more surprising? The ACP has close ties to the Family Research Council of which the Minnesota Family Council is an affiliate. It’s kind of shocking that the Minnesota Family Council didn’t know that.

If you find anything offensive whether it be “Family Guy” or same sex marriage then don’t do it, don’t view it, don’t whatever it. But your opposition to something DOESN’T give you the right to take it away from everyone else. We all have different values. That is called diversity. The big push for several years has been to accept diversity. Diversity and religious freedom are two things these so called “family” groups just don’t get. Religious freedom means you can’t force your beliefs on me and I can’t force mine on you but we can have differing beliefs.

In the spirit of how we treat the least among us, please consider
Compare and contrast: Slave rights and gay rights; the contrasts are easy, the comparisons are profound. Slave marriages were not legally honored either. They could not create and sign contracts and what is marriage mostly (legally speaking) but a huge contract with thousands of rights and responsibilities.

…And so the “Religious” Right continued their triumphant march into irrelevancy and oblivion.

One simple question. Why can’t you Christians, and other zealots like you regardless of religion, just live YOUR OWN life and stop trying to tell everyone else what to do? Seriously, this is the cause of most of the bad things in the world; people who think they must make everyone else live by their standards and morals. What ever happened to testifying by example? Spread your message but if someone says “no thank you” don’t start chasing them around and demanding that they “see the truth.” If you don’t like Family Guy then don’t watch it. Clearly you are not even a target demographic anyways.

And for that matter stop telling everyone they have to live by your definition of marriage “one man, one woman.” Where do you even get that since the Bible clearly says that a man can take more than one wife. Look it up. I think its in Exodus or Leviticus. The Bible also clearly lays out rules for slavery. That would be in Exodus. Ex 21:6 is particularly brutal. But its in the Bible so it must be okay.

Live your own lives and stop trying to dominate everyone else.

These “religious right” organizations need everything banned because they haven’t the moral fiber to make their own decisions or the moral fortitude to be able to turn down “sin.” You know what they say- “Idle hands are the devil’s workshop.” Stop trying to control other peoples’ lives and surround yourself with like-minded individuals if you need to. What happens in the privacy of our homes is none of anyone’s business. This is tantamount to voyeurism on the part of these “righteous” groups. They just can’t stop thinking about these issues. Why the fascination? Hmmm….

A number of years ago, the church I belonged to would get a (unsolicited) copy of a newsletter called something like the “Decency Report.” My favorite part of the newsletter had lists of TV episodes it considered offensive, what was offensive in them, and whom to contact to whine–I mean, complain.

So . . . you could complain even if you hadn’t seen the show in question. You were also told to complain if you saw the show but were, for whatever reason, not offended (Godless degenerate!). Making up your own mind, or saying “I didn’t see it, so I don’t care” was not an option.

I think this selection of clips reveals more about the American Family Association than it does about Family Guy. “This stuff offends us.” That’s OK; feel free to change the channel. There are a ton of things on TV that I hate and my solution is to not watch them. Is that so difficult?

It’s nice to see how all of the comments so far champion diversity but bash Christianity. “Everyone can believe what they want, except Christians.” Nice, people.
I’m not saying that infringing on people’s rights is good, but if Christians want to warn other Christians not to watch a show that goes against their morals and religion, more power to them.

That was a funny clip. If you dont liek it, turn it off plain and simple. As for the kids be a parent and pay attention to what there watching. You can always program your TV to enter a code when shows like this come on, like i do and it works. After seeing this clip i realize what i been missing, Family Guy is really funny. I do not see anyone complaining about Desperate Housewives or 90210 which tackels teen pregnancy, double edged sword.

When I’m flipping through the channels and one of those offensive right wing nazi christian brain washing propaganda shows pop up I merely change the channel.

Jane….We’re not bashing Christians. We’re bashing the fact that Christians always are so ready to use the law and the government to enforce THEIR beliefs on the rest of us. These people are calling for GOVERNMENT SANCTIONS because they don’t like what they saw. Christians are responsible for the majority of the violence on the Mexican border right now because of their uncompromising position on drug prohibition, a policy that has been shown to be the root cause of ALL the violence associated with black market drugs. 90% of Christians and Christian churches and organizations ignore this fact and continue to blindly support the war on drugs regardless of human cost. Why? Because you believe doing drugs is morally wrong so you feel justified in sending everyone else to jail because they refuse to follow your moral code.

Christians are free to believe whatever they want and practice those beliefs in privacy but you DON’T get to define my life or what I do with it. Until you get that you will ALWAYS find opposition to your attempts to turn America into a “Christian” nation.

Christians are free to practice their religion, but not the Native Americans (peyote and other practices) or the Rastafarianists

If I recalled correctly the Nazi were those that burned books and destroyed LIFE with the idea that there is only one “race” or was it way? Free thought is a blessing from GOD and it’s about “Thou shall not trespass” on the “free will” of another. It is incomprehensible to me how people have this overwhelming need to control and invade the LIFE CHOICES of others. They are not God — and appear to have designated themselves to function in this capacity. God is only Love. God created us — we did not create IT nor should we presume to speak for another or for GOD.
