Members of the RNC Welcoming Committee, an organizing body of self-described anarchists and anti-authoritarians, were detained at the Canadian border last weekend, forcing the cancellation of two workshops in Kingston, Ontario, Canada.
According to blog reports, the activists were stopped by both American and Canadian authorities.
Apparently the border police, FBI, and ATF barred the American RNC “Welcoming Committee” activists from entering Canada to give their talk about the upcoming protests against the Republican National Convention in St. Paul, MN. The activists were held at the border for 5 hours while they were investigated, only to find out that they were not allowed into the country. The rest of the Northeast tour is still on track, but both Canadian dates have been canceled.
Committee members are traveling across the country to build support for actions against the RNC and are “spreading anti-RNC fervor and gathering feedback, information, and resources for next September.” At the workshops, they unveil a “What the RNC Will Look Like” presentation, “covering info on the convention itself, the layout of protest groups and their plans, and current updates, followed by a question-and-answer discussion.”
