But could he unite DFL and GOP leaders at the State Capitol?

Abraham LincolnToday is the birthday of Abraham Lincoln, and if the man were alive today he would most certainly support new gas and sales taxes to support road and transit projects. That’s the message from St. Paul-based advocacy group Transit for Livable Communities, which is staging a spectacle at the State Capitol today featuring several costumed Abe Lincolns.

From the press release: “Lincoln once said that ‘You cannot escape the responsibility of tomorrow by evading it today.’ Yet, that is exactly what some politicians are asking us to do. We can’t borrow our way out of Minnesota’s transportation crisis. Transit, especially, needs a stable source of funding, and our legislators need to step up to the plate.”

A slew of “Honest Abes” — complete with stovepipe hats, beards and a large cardboard bus — will wander the Capitol from 3-4 this afternoon to speak with anyone who wants to hear their take on Minnesota’s transportation crisis. Look for them near room 111. Update 10:37 a.m.: TLC has changed the time and location to 3:30-4:30 p.m. outside room 10 of the State Office Building.
