“Minnesota Representative and free-range cougar” Michele Bachmann got prominent play on The Daily Show last night as a key example of conservatives “speaking crazy to power.” At 2:50 into the clip (below), host Jon Stewart plays Bachmann’s recent comments that an expansion of the AmeriCorps program might lead to PC “re-education camps.”
“You can’t re-educate them in camps,” retorts Stewart. “You have to educate them first!”
Then the show cuts to a recent Bachmann interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity, who thanked Bachmann for “doing a great job”:
Hannity: …I have no doubt they’ll keep attacking you, ’cause you’re so effective…
Bachmann: Thank you, we’re going to fight for our freedom.
Hannity: Absolutely. Against tyranny.
Stewart: Yes. Tyranny. AKA, our democratically elected president… I think you might be confusing tyranny with losing.

You gotta love Jon Stewart! He hit it right on the nail…”I think you might be confusing tyranny with losing.” Priceless!

Another reason NOT to watch Jon Stewart, he is an ass, it should not be about winning and losing, it should be about what is est for the country.

What makes Stewart an ass? Refusing to show deference to delusional conservatives? Forgive the redundancy.

Let’s face facts: Bach saw what one wingnut in a skirt could do to the Repub white male whackjobs and their closeted bisexual wives, and is turning on the rhetoric for a run in 2012….
I can’t wait for the “Nailin’ Palin” sequels, “Poppin’ Bachman” and “Backdoorin’ Bachman”.

MB is just another example of the crybaby conversatives that can’t scream loud enough about how horrible things are while they were perfectly accepting of the status quo not six months ago.
Tell me conservatives:
Did you vote for George Bush BOTH TIMES?
In 2000, did you send around the Sore/Loserman emails and other such hateful garbage?
Do you listen to the one-sided blustering anger of Limbaugh, Hannity and Glenn Beck?
Well, guess what? You were wrong and the average American finally woke up. It took an entire financial collapse, an entirely pointless war and 8 years of ignorance to do it, but it happened. So, for the next couple years, suck it up and deal with it. Or, to coin a phrase many conservatives like to throw around: Love It or Leave It.
And next time around, vote for a well intentioned, forward thinking Republican. Trust me, they are out there.

MB, you missed the point entirely.
“Another reason NOT to watch Jon Stewart, he is an ass, it should not be about winning and losing, it should be about what is est for the country.”
Maybe John Stewart thinks what is best for the country is not to have the republican marketing figureheads calling tyranny against the president at any chance they get, especially when it *isn’t* tyranny. The only reason he talked about winning or losing was to explain that.

The problem is, Obama is doing a lot of questionable things including continuing a lot of Bush policies that Democrats were supposedly opposd to like the suspension of Habeus Corpus, wiretapping, etc. Things he promised to end.
Then he is making it worse by taking over the banks by not letting them repay TARP money and converting stock from preferred to common so they have more control over them.
She’s talking about Obama’s Americorps expansion which calls for mandatory service in government projects for kids.
The issues aren’t about Democrats or Republicans. That’s a smoke screen and people like Stewart are part of the scam keeping people focused on meaningless Republican jokes, when the Democrats are doing even more to steal power from the people.
As lomg as you guys guffaw over stupid shows like this you’re not keeping your eye on the ball.

You really have to have a few right wing conservative friends to really understand the mindset.
When Shaun, Michele, Glen Beck, Rush, and the complete killer clowns from out space crowd speak, they listen. They not only listen, they listen as if it were the gospel. The gospel preached by gods own spokesmen and women. These are some deliriously deluded people folks.
They are not all wealthy and scorned, forsaken by the working class. They are screaming righteous indignation and they are your friends and neighbours. If you are not scared, then I will be scared for you. They are for real.

All the conservatives crying about “tyranny” need to buy a new dictionary.
“Tyranny” is calling all dissenters “unpatriotic.”
“Tyranny” is illegally wiretapping phones.
“Tyranny” is… well, the entire Bush reign, innit?
We’re finally OUT of tyranny. Enjoy it while it lasts.

Best part occurs later: “You’re in the minority now. It’s supposed to taste like a sh*t taco.”
Priceless, Mr. Stewart.
Seriously, though—Hannity, Limbaugh and company are soiling themselves with glee right now. They’re the highest paid character assassins in the western world, and since Obama was elected and the Democrats took over the legislature, they’ve got more marks than they can hit with rifles, so they’re switching to bombs. Plus, with the economy in the toilet, and Bush basically having fertilised the Sinai, ragging on Obama, et al is—as an English teacher of mine once put it—easy as slapping a puppy. Cheap shots all around, and i’ll bet Hannity is buying.

Wow Jon Steward totally sold out to the tyrranical Government that will soon take all our rights away. And I’m not talking about the government that these people want you to think is in place. I’m talking about the big corporations who bought the government years ago. Wait and see people you’ve been forewarned. Say goodbye to your precious freedoms.

Does anyone really think that having kids to mandatory public service is a BAD thing?
Also, as Stewart said “before you can re-educate the kids, you have to educate them.”

that is the best response in here, and yet no one has said anything about it. Republicans, or Democrats who the hell cares. We mainly care about what actual actions are going on in govt and alot of questionable things are going on. Whether or not someone is wrapping up pointing those facts out in a political agenda or not isnt what you should be arguing about but rather the valid points she made while speaking. I hardly believe people were really so outraged with what bush was doing that we voted for a democrat. Sadly it seems more like it was a counter culture sort of backlash against republicans in general rather than a really well informed opinon of what was going on. But then again, how long has it been since we’ve been a well informed people anyway?

Hey, I also hear that Obama puts his pants on both legs at a time… Not only is that down-right un-American I heard him say in his Campaign that he put his pants on one leg at time. Liar, liar… We should impeach him, now. I mean for GODS SAKE he’s had 100 days to get it right… or left…

Heck, Jon Stewart doesn’t need comedy writers on his staff with the embarrassment of riches forthcoming from the like of Hannity, Bachmann, Cheney and the rest of this misguided crowd.
The really sad thing is that Hannity and Limbaugh are intentionally baiting fools like Bachmann for the sake of their own ratings and she is too clueless to see that they are using her. It would be shameful if it weren’t such fun to watch.

After 8 years of Bush-era police state amplification, the left is now laughing at the notion that government could put citizens in camps under some pretense? Didn’t we just spend the better part of the 00’s warning about how the Bushes under Rex-84 were building secret detention camps and a virtual gulag archipelago across Eurasia? Help me understand, is it supposed to be different now because Obama is in office? It’s the same government, people, only the P.R. man has changed. Mocking this lady for being concerned about government information collection programs (like DARPA? OIA?) seems just really misguided.
