Carp, it’s what’s for dinner

A recent New York Times op-ed proposed a tongue-in-cheek solution to the problem posed by the invasive Asian carp: Eat them. Well, first initiate ballast regulations and then eat them. Invasive problem solved, right?

The Great Lakes Blogger is all about getting rid of the invasives, but he points out one minor flaw that sunk a similar idea. It was once bandied about that sea lamprey could be harvested and exported to European consumers, but the contamination levels were too high to deem the product safe for consumption.

But if anyone wants to eat a carp pulled out of the Chicago canal, be my guest.
