With the press, constituents and bloggers eager to question Rep. Michele Bachmann on myriad controversial statements in recent days, her “cap-and-trade” forums on Thursday left many disappointed.
“[A]nyone thinking she’d engage in some give and take with her constituents had to come away disappointed,” wrote the Pioneer Press’ Dennis Lien. “Other than her opening remarks, Bachmann said nothing and answered no questions.”
“Before the session began, a Bachmann spokeswoman said the congresswoman would not be available for questions following the forum, but that any could be directed to her office on Friday,” he said. “Calls to different office numbers Friday morning noted the office would be closed until Monday.”
The St. Cloud Times noted a similar lack of interaction. “Bachmann took no questions from the audience Thursday and left the room without addressing requests to substantiate her claim,” wrote Larry Schumacher.
The Star Tribune also wrote on the forum but failed to note Bachmann’s lack of interaction, and they also had no quotes from Bachmann at her own forum. They did note she didn’t bring much original material. “Bachmann spoke for less than 10 minutes, during which she largely read her op-ed piece that appeared in Wednesday’s Star Tribune in which she criticized the cap-and-trade plan going before Congress as an ‘energy tax.’”

I was recently at two such forums with Keith Ellison, one he organized and one where he was one panelist. Anyone who wanted to ask him something could. No speaker at either forum is getting money from some corporate special interest to spread nonsense.
Neither one got press coverage.

I don’t know what the uproar is. It is kind of beneath her to entertain questions from peasants, I mean citizens. She represents economic royalty, and really should only answer questions from their representatives, Hannity, Beck, Lewis, et al.

Good summary of the print media coverage of yet another Republican staged event. Do Michele Bachmann and her fellow conservatives have an ounce of authenticity between them? I wonder what she will do next in order to try to look relevant.

Why should Michelle Bachmann take questions about cap and trade?
She has made her position very clear many times and it’s there for anyone to read if they have questions about where she stands on cap and trade:
“I believe the choice should rest with the individual on cap and trade and President Obama should never have the right to force any citizen to wear a cap – or any other type of hat – when they trade anything they consider to have value. Baseball cards, jacks, doilies, or any other collectible. It’s another example of the socialism that the Democrat Party is trying to force on us because they are fascists and like to wear caps so they think we should ALL have to wear caps. I personally prefer to NOT wear a cap. And I will fight for YOUR right to not wear a cap if you don’t want to too – errrr… also, I mean. As well. Either. Whatever… because it’s Marxist. And the United States is not Marxist – it’s Christian. And Obama is a muslin.”

Bachmann would probably be more receptive to interacting with her audiences if they weren’t salted with nutcase stalkers whose sun rises and sets on what she says and does on any given day.
