Minnesotans win big at Oscars

No Country for Old Men took home four Academy Awards including Best Picture, and Juno won another as Minnesotans won big victories at Sunday’s Oscar ceremony in Los Angeles.
In addition to the award for Best Picture, Joel and Ethan Coen won Oscars for Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay for their dark western. The two had previously won an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for 1996′s Fargo. Javier Bardem, who played the chilling assassin Anton Chigurh, won for Best Supporting Actor.
Writer Diablo Cody won the award for Best Original Screenplay for Juno, a comedy about a teenager who finds herself unexpectedly pregnant. It was the first screenplay by Cody, who famously wrote the film at a St. Louis Park Starbucks.
Other notable winners included Daniel Day Lewis, who won his second Best Actor award for his portrayal of a ruthless oilman in There Will Be Blood; Best Actress went to Marion Cotillard for her portrayal of the French singer Edith Piaf in La Vie En Rose. Tilda Swinton was named Best Supporting Actress for her turn as a corporate attorney in Michael Clayton. And Pixar won another Oscar for the culinary rodent caper Ratatouille.
