Ellison supports move to impeach Cheney

A growing number of members of Congress are moving to support impeachment investigations into the actions of Vice President Dick Cheney, and Rep. Keith Ellison, DFL-Minnesota, has signed on as a supporter for those investigations.

Rep. Robert Wexler, D-Fla., has been spearheading the effort to open impeachment investigations, and last month he sent a letter to the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, John Conyers, D-Mich., urging support of such investigations. Ellison, a member of the judiciary committee, has signed on to that letter, according to a representative at his office, making him the fifth member of the 40-member committee to press for investigations.

The letter charges Cheney with “providing Congress and the American people false intelligence leading up to the Iraq war, the revelation of the identity of a covert agent for political retaliation, and the illegal wiretapping of American citizens.”

The letter urges Conyers to open investigations into Cheney. “We trust that you will hold a sober investigation and let the facts determine the outcome as you have as Chairman this past year,” it said. “We sincerely believe that impeachment hearings are the appropriate and necessary next step given what we have seen of this Administration.”

Bravo, Keith! Makes me wish I had a Congressman. Unfortunately, I live in John Kline’s district, and he represents only George W. Bush & cronies.

Hey – since I don’t have any representation in Congress, does that mean I’m exempt from taxes?

Sorry for the tangential digression – kudos to Ellison for stepping up tot he plate!

Nice to see impeachment getting local Minnesota press… Representative Keith Ellison has shown great leadership by consistently advocating impeachment, having introduced an impeachment resolution in the Minnesota Legislature before running for his current position as Representative in DC of Minnesota’s 5th District…

Speaking out for impeachment during his campaign at ImpeachforPeace Rally in Loring Park on October 5th, 2006…
