Nice… $393 to murder a baby. Makes me want to vomit. Abortion is murder, pure and simple. It absolutely disgusts me that most abortions are done for “matter of convenience.” what pisses me off is birth control pills and condoms can be obtained for free at many inner city clinics. This garbage about one night stands and getting an abortion is such a stain on the morality of our society it’s pathetic.

The Minnesota government is facing a deficit of over 4 billion dollars and we are wasting 4.75 million on a program that appears not to work. Further, giving it to religious groups to tout their religion may open the government up to law suits. Costing even more in the long run. There is an easy line item to cut…

Mr.Birky I understand that the MCCL has mad a difference in the abortions held among women, but you have to understand that this group will only last so long. After a while no one will care about what these people have to say and life will go on. Abortion will be an issue in the U.S for many years to come. You cannot assume that this group will end abortion entirely, but I still agree with you claim. Abortion is wrong and its not right to take a live of a baby when they have not even experienced life at all. Each day another abortion is made and life will continue on. one cannot assum that there will be a stop to abortion.

It’s spelled “Birkey” and my sources were clearly using MCCL logic to make that point. MCCL says that the drop of 23 abortions was a direct result of Positive Alternatives. That is very unlikely.

No, I’m not trying to claim that the average abortion costs $200,000. I am comparing Positive Alternatives and abortion on a more apples to apples level (rather than the apples to fence posts approach taken by the author). According to the MN Dept. of Health, Positive Alternatives served over 12,000 women. Thus the cost-per-client-served by Positive Alternatives is $393 ($4,711,606 divided by 12,000). Using numbers provided by the MN Dept. of Human Services, the average taxpayer funded abortion over a similar time period is $392 ($3,062,710 spent on abortion divided by 7,814 women). Because information on Positive Alternatives is only available for a two-year cycle, both numbers are generated using two years of data.

Mr. Burkey — I must say I am disappointed that you did not take a more even-handed, objective approach to reporting on taxpayer funded abortions in Minnesota. You disregard the fact that Positive Alternatives helped more than 6,000 women in 2007 and instead apply the funding to only 23 fewer abortions. Why do you not then do the same with family planning funding for the same period? Family planning funds are far greater than Positive Alternatives funds, which means those 23 fewer abortions cost taxpayers a far more “colossal” amount in FP money. Do you see how your approach makes no sense? If yours is truly an independent news source, then you ought to treat both sides of issues with equal fairness or senselessness.

In fact the average taxpayer funded abortion and the average cost of serving a woman and her family through Positive Alternatives differs by only $1, yes one, single dollar.
