The Twin Cities’ Tax Day Tea Party drew thousands to the State Capitol Wednesday night to express their anger over taxes, among many other issues. The peaceful demonstration featured a myriad of signs, most of them critical of Barack Obama, questioning his ideology, his citizenship and even his divinity (or lack thereof): one protester’s sign accused the president of being the Anti-Christ.

In many communities around the country, the tax day rally was a unique evemt, but St. Paul has played host to similar Tax Cut Rallies for the past few years. Organizers said that crowd attendance Wednesday topped 10,000, while Capitol police put it at 2,000. Those are similar, or perhaps slightly, higher numbers compared to rallies held in previous years.

Questions about Obama’s citizenship were a theme of some signs, with one calling him a “usurper.”
