If you want dialogue, Michael, perhaps you'd consider commenting on a post that's not nearly two years old. Easy to have bold opinions where nobody will find them.

Fortunately, president Barack Obama does not allow torture...... right?

Oh wait. Extraordinary Rendition still goes on.

Then we have reports and allegations of Bradley Manning being exposed to psychological torture in the Brig. It is even being brought up by Amnesty International.

With out even being charged yet. For the crimes of..........

exposing war crimes.

Just how tough do you have to work to carry water for those in power?

Being lapdogs of those in power, instead of being watchdogs of those in power.

Which is what Thomas Jefferson wanted the press to do.

Does it pay well to carry water for these people?

Enquiring minds want to know.

I completely agree with you about the 1984 parallel! - not that they even needed to read Orwell's book. but my sense of horror when I read that book as a teen is coming back as we hear that the Cheney/Bush etc were torturing to find evidence to justify their war, not to "keep the USA safe"

I don't care about prosecuting the people at the bottom of the chain of command, and I presume the people who did the torturing are at the bottom. They can go. I'm fine with Obama letting them off, provided they tell who authorized or ordered what. So far I'm still giving Obama credit for releasing these memos, since it's so clear why the CIA badly wanted them kept secret. What I want to know is what will happen to the people who wrote the memos and the people who approved them. They are war criminals, and the law must come down on them to prevent this ever happening again.

I think you give the DOJ and CIA a bit too much credit. I personally think someone in one of those agencies saw the incredibly awful "Wicker Man" (the one with Nick Cage) over, and over, and over...
