I would propose that our current prohibitionist drug war is to blame, rather than the guns. After all, you don't exactly find liquor store owners arming themselves with AK-47's to protect their financial interests. Start by legalizing mary jane. We've allowed organized crime to tap into this industry for far too long. Time for a change of course. The drug war has caused this level of violence.

Well, true enough: the Obama administration has been good for, far as I can tell, only the gun business; it's, well, booming.

But while the spin is predictable, the thrust of the article is correct: in the past, incidents of multiple victim public shootings would have resulted in a Democrat-led Congressional stamped for more and more "gun control" laws, even though even the CDC couldn't find -- and it looked, hard -- for any evidence that they do anything useful.

Hey. Maybe they're learning?

How interesting. Eric Holder and President Obama say they will not prosecute the clearly unlawful (because torture is unConstitutional) criminal orders by Bush, Cheney and Company, after we now know from the British Government's Downing Street Memoranda, that Bush and Cheney lied (we got "yellow-caked") and started a war that has killed, by Pentagon estimates, 125,000 innocent Iraqi human beings, most of whom were caught in the cross-fire.

If Obama doesn't get the obvious political message here; that at a certain point the GOP will do a "turn-the-tables" stunt and blame him for what goes on under his watch, then my estimation of Obama's overall intellect shall have suffered.

If Holder and Obama do not enforce the laws, all of them, then there will be far more gun and other violence as killers and others see that there are no real teeth in the administration's law enforcement responsibilities. The President IS the Chief Law Enforcement official in the country. That is what the Constitution says. We may not like all the laws. But, they ARE the law.

As multiple-death shootings surge, Congress looks away...

"In recent weeks more than 60 people... have been killed in multiple-death shootings from coast to coast. It’s just the type of headline-grabbing trend that might usually get congressional lawmakers screaming from the rafters for policy reforms....

I just havent seen a sign of the "government" conquering the "people" here lately... well, maybe the closest would be assault on privacy rights as embodied in the Patriot Act and the general disregard of individual rights promoted by the Bush/Cheney administration..... except that diehard NRA supporters were more or less in line supporting that stuff.... at least you never heard much from them on it, maybe principled, old school folks like Bob Barr, but really the type of folks that showed up teabagging and respond to Glenn Beck were all for illegal wiretapping and torture on demand. I may be nuts, but I think this has more to do with racism and that an African American President strikes many with the fear that a slave rebellion struck antebellum Southerners ...with a predictable response to arm up.....and spread the fear that Obama is going to take their guns away. I think the NRA and the gun lobby and industry whipped this all up simply to make their industry recession proof. Worked pretty well.

Freedom Lover, it's not all one way. The same people smuggling US guns to Mexico are smuggling drugs and people. If you're not willing to do something about the guns, you're not willing to address the problems at all. You sure can't expect much Mexican help when we won't respond to their complaints about guns coming from our side.

Does it seem odd to anyone that instead of securing the border, Eric Holder wants to infringe on your 2nd Amendment rights in order to make Mexico safer? Smells funny to me, and to anyone with a healthy level of skepticism. Our leaders seem very out of touch on many issues, but on gun control, they seem to sense that people are distrustful of government and don't wish to lay down their weapons and be conquered quietly. At least they are getting something right.
