There is something curiously missing from this Park Rapids Enterprise report on the Hubbard County Republican convention held over the weekend: delegates who support Sen. John McCain. In fact the presumptive Republican nominee didn’t even garner a mention.
The majority of the delegates back Mike Huckabee.“He understands conservatism in all areas,” Jonathan Carter stated.
“He delivers straight answers,” John Schrader said.
Several of the alternates voiced support for Ron Paul, including Candace Ihrke of Hart Lake Township, who “wants changes made in government.”
Huckabee withdrew from the race on Tuesday evening securing the nomination for McCain, just three days after the county convention was held. It will become more apparent as the delegate selection process continues whether McCain’s lack of support among the party’s base will imperil his campaign in Minnesota.
