Bill Kristol floated a few “bold vice presidential” choices for Sen. John McCain in his latest New York Times column, including “a hawkish and principled Democrat like Joe Lieberman,” and Gens. David Petraeus and Raymond Odierno. Perhaps the most bold option proposed by Kristol is Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, “the most impressive conservative in American public life.”

The suggestion prompted Editor & Publisher’s Greg Mitchell to reason, “we had a “Silent Cal” (Coolidge) as president so why not a “Silence Clarence” as Veep?

The Associate Press recently reported that “two years and 144 cases have passed since Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas last spoke up at oral arguments.”
