Five years later, still no Saddam-al Qaeda link

According to a report from McClatchy, a Pentagon review of over 600,000 documents seized in Iraq shows no link whatsoever between the regime of Saddam Hussein and the terrorist group al Qaeda.
The documents do show some links between the former Iraqi strongman’s regime and other regional terrorist groups, including Hamas. But there were no ties between Iraq and the terrorist group that attacked America on September 11, 2001.
The report is important as it again undermines the case for invading Iraq in March of 2003. In 2002, then-Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld called evidence for an Iraq-al Qaeda link “bulletproof,” and George W. Bush has cited Iraq-al Qaeda links as justification for the invasion as recently as July of 2007.
