You can call Franken ‘Senator-elect’ but don’t call him ‘Funnyman’

He’ll answer to “Senator-elect,” but Al Franken won’t tell jokes on demand when addressed as “Funnyman” by a stranger. That’s the story from an eavesdropper who took notes in a Washington, D.C. bar.

Here’s the dialogue as reported in Politico:

STRANGER: Hey, funnyman, tell me a story.

FRANKEN: Are you talking to me?

STRANGER: Yes. Come over here and tell me a story.

FRANKEN: There’s a nice way and a wrong way to ask someone a question.

STRANGER: What’s the wrong way?

FRANKEN: The way you just asked me.

STRANGER: What’s the nice way?

Franken replied to come over and ask him politely, Politico reports.

Senator-elect Franken seems to have handled a confrontation in just the right way. Let’s hope for his success on our behalf in the Senate.
