Counting the dead: Mapping the impact on Minnesota

The number of U.S. military casualties in Iraq recently passed the 4,000 mark. According to the Web site icasualties.org, 59 of those soldiers have come from Minnesota. We’ve plotted data from icasualties.org onto a Google map showing where the impact has been felt in Minnesota. You can zoom, click and drag on the map to explore the data. Note: Three cities — Minneapolis, St. Paul and Wilmar — have had multiple soldier deaths. They are represented by a single dot on the map, but clicking the dot will show a list of the individuals’ names and ranks, and the dates they were killed.
