Rick, the destruction of SSI and Medicare would be profoundly capitalistic. In fact, that's what Bush wanted to do- privatize social security. Socialists are rather fond of social security.

Secondly, I'm not so sure I don't want socialized medicine. Sure, I think it'd be great if communities took over voluntarily providing free medical care to those who can't afford it, because I'm a left-libertarian and would prefer that all socialistic things be voluntary in nature, but right now, looking at it pragmatically, socialized medicine might be necessary. We have a lot of poor people in this country who can't afford medical care. I'm willing to look the other way when it comes to laying a little bit of taxes on the upper-upper class, the majority of whom are as wealthy as they are because of accrued inherited capital and assets, to pay for decent medical care for the poor. Besides, you can still choose to use your own doctor if you feel like it.

Thirdly, the Republicans aren't so great on the free trade thing. The biggest partnership of government and business is between the Pentagon and the arms industry, through the bloated and ridiculous military budget repeatedly defended by the neocons on the right. This military-industrial complex is supported by the special interest lobbies of the weapons manufacturers and the pressure on politicians to keep those nice jobs producing the machinery of war in their states.
Moreover, the Republicans often expand government dramatically. The national debt leaped to never-before seen levels when Reagan was in office, dwarfing the spending of Carter. Bush did the same irresponsible thing. What's worse, the GOP doesn't raise taxes to pay for their spending- they just borrow and transfer the cost along with interest onto MY generation.

They are right that Democrats are Socialists or leaning that way, and the definition of Socialism proves that. However, what I will say is this: When groups such as these run around making useless proclomations or resolutions such as this, all it does is blur the party line. I've said for years that the Repubs biggest issue is no one knows where they're coming from. There's no consistency. Until that changes, we'll have liberals trying to ram socialized medicine down our throats (trust me folks, you don't want this) the continued destruction of SSI and Medicare (except I will cede that this is both parties issue and no one has the balls to do what's right and fix this thing) the nationalizing of banks, the auto industry, I can see a few newspapers coming into the fold. Funny, since the days of the invention of the telephone (example being not too long ago) the world has had a plethora of eyewitness accounts of how government intervention has screwed more things up than it's fixed, yet we still look to expand government. Odd.

When all else fails, call names.

It's like the GOP's childish refusal to refer to their opponents as the Democratic party. And about as mature as a resolution to refer to repubs as "Repiglicans".

Look at the lowlifes on the list who signed this childish "resolution". The presence of Brian Sullivan's name on the list speaks for itself.

How about rebranding the Republicans as the "Crony-Capitalist Party"? That's what their poplicis amounted to, even if they can't tell them from socialism.

TARP was a Bush baby, that unfortunately Obama adopted.
Socialism is a far cry better than the proto-fascism offered by the right the last eight years. Look at where militarism, corporate greed, and the fraudulent derivatives Wall St. peddled around the world has gotten us. Nearly six million high paying jobs got sent overseas. Wall St. Execs pocketing billions. Resources diverted to war and oil profiteering. Torture program started so as to get false confessions linking Iraq to 9-11. Patriot Act and spying on Americans (still going on, and look at what happend to Eliott Spitzer because of it).
Yep, I'll take socialism, but I sure wish Obama gives up the fascist trappings of defending the torturers, laws allowing spying on Americans, and these darn wars.

Ha ha ha ha ha!! "the Democratic Party has outlined their plans to nationalize the banking, financial and healthcare industries;" Didn't you see the outline? They used PowerPoint. But its an outline, not an "agenda" like the gays have. "the Democratic Party has proposed massive government bailouts for the mortgage and auto industries". Well let's see, they have continued the policies of the great Socialist President George Bush who bailed out private companies including the auto companies, (of course bailing out private companies is now Socialism, as opposed to letting them all fail and take them over and that would be Socialism. "the Democratic Party has passed trillions of dollars in new government spending, all with strings attached in order to control nearly every aspect of American life;" Yes, if the Democrats were true capitalists they would not attach strings to spending, they would just say "free money do whatever you want with it", which is really what tax cuts for the rich are. Free money, do whatever you want with it while Bush runs up a deficit. And yes, they are controlling nearly every aspect of American life- I am so constrained that I can't think of a single thing that is affecting me personally. Love those wacky Republicans.
