Bachmann on end-times radio
Monday, May 18, 2009 at 2:20 pm
Rep. Michele Bachmann returned to “Understanding the Times” with end-times pastor Jan Markell to talk about the “Criminalization of Christianity” last week. Bachmann has been a regular guest of Markell’s in the past, discussing a range of topics from homosexuality to Jesus’ return. This time, the topic was the labeling of Christians as terrorists.
“It isn’t that they don’t want to use the word ‘terrorism,’ it’s who they’re using this word against,” Bachmann told Markell last Tuesday, in reference to a Homeland Security report on rightwing extremism. “And as you had stated correctly, in this report — which I have read, it’s about a nine-page report I believe, if I recall correctly — the right-wing extremists report, they include people who believe in end-time prophecies, pro-life. It is appalling the people that they named.”
She continued, “People who don’t want government to be so large, they are on the list of potential terrorists… People need to realize that, truly, our freedoms are more at risk than they have been at any other time in recent history.”
The show description sarcastically refers to Christians as “the new Taliban”:
“Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) and others, weigh in about the efforts to marginalize, silence and even persecute Christians by the new administration… Christians are clearly the new Taliban. What can we do to fight back? We are deemed ‘right-wing extremists’ while ‘left-wing extremists’ glorified.”
Hat tip: Dump Bachmann

“…the right-wing extremists report, they include people who believe in end-time prophecies, pro-life. It is appalling the people that they named.”
Of course, she neglects to mention two things:
1. The “they” that produced this report were the Bush administration, which commissioned and prepared the report.
2. That there was a similar report prepared that identified “leftist” groups that might be prone to violent actions.

She is a complete lunatic. What a shameful smear on this state, she is. Almost as bad as Pawlenty and cutting health care for Minnesotans, so HCMC will need to close their burn unit. Great plan. Argh.

Unsure why people are critical of Jan Markell and Bachman here. They seem pretty reasonable to me in the posted YouTube video sound bite. Did anyone listen to Bachman’s criticism of the current admin? Maybe challenge yourself and listen to a few of “Understanding the Times” shows before passing judgement. Even more, check into why Bible prophecy has so many followers. I really think most savage comments on both sides of the aisle are made without investigating the who, what and why.

I cross-posted the Minnesota Independent report along with some supplemental information.
I have no problem with Bible prophecy. What concerns me is the marriage between end-time prophecy and far-right political extremism.
In the blog at the link below, I document the influence of Bachmann’s incendiary “armed and dangerous” rhetoric on impressionable end-time extremists such as “EndTime Watchman.”

I still disagree. Bachman and Markell are peaceful. Linking Bachmann and Markell to that cowboy nuthead is similar to linking Obama to the black panther types who were reported on election day. End times is based on historical and factual reporting from the Bible which claims itself to be true. The Bible is either a complete lie or it isn’t true at all. The historical evidence, when examined, is overwhelmingly weighted towards the Bible being true.
I don’t think these two women would sentence homosexuals to death. Maybe just disagree with them. The message isn’t to incite violence. Just get right with God.
Thanks for the response. I really appreciate trying to understand both sides of an issue.

I’m sick of everybody trying to say Bachmann is a nut. The national media and even local media want us to believe this because it pisses them off that they can’t get that seat in congress for the Dems. You tell me how this is crazy- Bachmann is currently sponsoring HR 1750 to track sex offenders, HR 502 to make medical expenses a tax deduction, HR 636 to provide assistance from SS for needy families to be used for alternative to abortion services, HR 943 which seems to be a bill that would make the gov more accountable. Even more importantly to protect our personal and economic freedoms she is sponsoring along with 36 cosponsors HJ Res. 41 Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United States to prohibit the President from entering into a treaty or other international agreement that would provide for the United States to adopt as legal tender in the United States a currency issued by an entity other than the United States- this is necessary because China, Russia, and some other countries may abandon the dollar as a reserve and we need to make sure that our dollar is not merged with another currency, causing us to lose our economic sovereignty. Also very importantly she is cosponsoring HR 1207 a bill by the honorable Representative Ron Paul of Texas which is gaining momentum with 165 cosponsors, HR 1207 will change the way we audit the Federal Reserve so that we can start to find out what is really done with our money supply, and finally cosponsoring HR 450 which would force congress to follow the constitution. It seems to me she is doing more to protect freedom and democracy than most others in Congress. She knows exactly what she’s doing appealing to the religious, Libertarian minded people, and Ron Paul supporters because these people will make the most noise (and cash) for her when it comes time to fend off the Dems again, and the more you guys say she’s a nut, the more supporters she’ll get. This is because there is a growing segment of the population that is tired of business as usual (Obama=more of the same crap). We’ve grown up election through election and seen no REAL CHANGE. I was born in 1981 and every time I see the news it’s the same CRAP over and over (recycling on a 10-15 year cycle). We want freedom from overbearing taxes and never ending debt, we want the constitution to be taken seriously, and for US citizens to not be considered terrorists by the Government for their political or religious views.

Lets see, Matt. How is Bachmann a nut, let me list the ways:
Accusing the entire US Congress of being anti-American.
Accusing the President of being anti-American.
Saying that Christianity is being criminalized in a country where we Christians make up 70% of the population.
Claiming that CO2 is a natural gas and therefor is completely harmless. (Yes it’s a natural gas but that doesn’t necessairly make it harmless in every situation. After all, what would happen if you walked into a room filled with only CO2?)
One of my personal favorites: Saying that she ran for office because “God and my husband told me to.” Really? God was speaking to her just like when President Bush said that God told him to invade Iraq? Before you think that’s a perfectly fine thing to think ask yourself this question: What would be your reaction if someone beat you over the head with a bat and then claimed the defense “God told me to do it.”
Her claim that it’s “Unconstitutional and Socialism” for government to use tax money to pay for social and entitlement programs.
Her claim that the “Serve America” act will lead to Soviet Union style gulags.
Then there is her claim regarding the Smoot-Hawley act.
Her claim that it was quite interesting that the last time we had a outbreak of swine flu there just happened to be a Democrat in office. Of course the problem there is the last time we had an outbreak of swine flu was in 1976 and Gerald Ford was President in 1976…a Republican.
Now either, Matt, she is completely ignorant…or completely insane. But she for bloody sure is not competent, intelligent or deserving of the office she holds.

Matt, if you want freedom from debt, freedom from overbearing taxes, if you want the US Constitution to be taken seriously then you really should bother to realize that the debt, the “overbearing taxes” you pay..and the ones that do not take the US Constitution seriously..are the Republicans like her. Bush’s debt, Bush’s recession, Bush’s raping of the US Constitution.
And as for not being treated as terrorists and such for your political or religious views I’d like it if the Republicans would quit treating those who disagree with them as traitors, terrorists and unAmerican.
Your party, Matt, played that card first. Sorry, you’re not the victim on this score. If you don’t like being placed there yourself you really should have objected when the Republicans were doing it. That you didn’t only makes you a hypocrite.

I agree she may come off as extreme to liberals, but like I said she’s not crazy she knows exactly who she’s trying to appeal to. So she’s saying anything she has to say to stay in the news. The only thing I looked at were the bills she has her name on currently trying to go through committees and if you look at the bills they don’t look that bad at all to me. I’m sure if I dug back a year or two I could find all kinds of stuff I would not like. I don’t like Republicans or Democrats. I was always against everything Bush did. I’m not religious at all. I hate war. I like Ron Paul. I’m just tired of everybody over reacting to Bachmann. Her remark about the swine flu is the only crazy thing you mention. I must admit I don’t know what she said about Smoot-Hawley or can’t remember. I agree with all of her other statements that you have listed towards the top. I vote libertarian until Ron takes over the GOP. By the way if you want to throw around the Iraq war I think you should look up the link between the appearance of the Euro as a competing reserve currency, and Saddam switching to the Euro as an accepted payment for oil. Saddam also made a lot of money off that switch. The bankers and politicians are fighting this war to preserve the value of our currency in my opinion. That is why I support getting rid of the Federal Reserve the first step would be the audit that we’re trying to pass to start exposing the fraud.

Everyone laughed when Bachmann referred to “Smoot-Hawley” as “Hoot-Smalley” but how many people know what it was it or when it was passed? Bachmann claimed that President Franklin D. Roosevelt passed this tariff bill when in fact it was passed by Congress in 1930 during the Hoover Administration by a Republican Congress. Bachmann might be the rightful heir of the Republican morons who passed this bill which raised tariffs to historic highs and may have been the real cause of the Great Depression. Bachmann’s proposal to adopt a Constitutional Amendment to prevent the US from adopting another country’s currency probably should be called “Hoot-Smalley” just because it is so laughable and “smalley” because it is even dumber than Smoot-Hawley. This country is in the ditch economically because voters elected a group of ignorant incompetents who drove the bus over the cliff. Why would anyone ever want to give ignorant, insane people like Bachmann authority or responsibility over anything, much less the governance of this country?

EY: This is nonsense. There is no chance in hell that the US would go to any other currency besides the dollar. Our country cannot tell other countries what do do with their currency reserves – and this bill would not prevent other countries going to other currency for reserves. In my opinion, this legislation puts Bachmann in the kook class.

Here are 36 congressman worried enough to cosponsor the bill HJ Res 41.

Matt: if Bachmann is sponsering all of that worthwhile legislation, why doesn’t she talk about that when she’s making public appearances? She might appear to be more reasonable.

SEPARATION OF RAUNCH AND STATE
(It’s still legal – and always God-honoring – to air messages like the following. See Ezekiel 3:18-19. In light of government backing of raunchy behavior (such offenders were even executed in early America!), maybe the separation we really need is the “separation of raunch and state”!)
In Luke 17 in the New Testament, Jesus said that one of the big “signs” that will happen shortly before His return to earth as Judge will be a repeat of the “days of Lot” (see Genesis 19 for details). So gays are actually helping to fulfill this same worldwide “sign” (and making the Bible even more believable!) and thus hurrying up the return of the Judge! They are accomplishing what many preachers haven’t accomplished! Gays couldn’t have accomplished this by just coming out of closets into bedrooms. Instead, they invented new architecture – you know, closets opening on to Main Streets where little kids would be able to watch naked men having sex with each other at festivals in places like San Francisco (where their underground saint – San Andreas – may soon get a big jolt out of what’s going on over his head!). Thanks, gays, for figuring out how to bring back our resurrected Saviour even quicker!
[If you would care to learn about the depraved human "pigpen" that regularly occurs in Nancy Pelosi's district in California, Google "Zombietime" and click on "Up Your Alley Fair" in the left column. And to think - horrors - that she is only two levels away from being President!]

Hey, Matt! I think you missed this vital clue to Luke 17. After Jesus healed the ten lepers, just as he began to talk about the “end times,” He made this statement. “The kingdom of God is not coming with things that can be observed; nor will they say, ‘Look, here it is!’ or ‘There it is!’ For, in fact, the kingdom of God is among you.”
The question of faith, Matt, is how do you and Ms. Bachman live in ways that reflect the presence of God’s love and grace in the world? Do you perform acts of mercy? Do you visit the sick, offer a cup of water, clothe the naked, feed the hungry, visit those in prison and help build a world that meets those same needs? If not, both you and Ms. Bachman, and all those whose chief (but entirely self-serving) concern is winning their own ticket to heaven by trying to discern when the end times will arrive are in for a little surprise when the end comes. Try reading Matthew 25:31-46. Pastor Markell might be advised to read it, too. Blessings…

Uhm I think you have me confused with Michael, I don’t believe in those old ignorant fairy tales Greg. I don’t go by what politicians say when pandering to specific audiences. They all lie! and say whatever you want to hear (klobuchar has lied directly to me about how she would vote on an issue and I found out by reading the roll call). Anyway just ignore all that left, right media garbage and watch how they vote at Thomas Library of Congress, that’s all that’s going to matter a few years down the road.

[...] Michele Bachmann’s relationship with Jan Markell, a Messianic Jewish activist who leads Olive Tree Ministries, recently faced growing scrutiny because of Markell’s End Times beliefs and claims that “the gay agenda and abortion” bring God’s judgment on America. Bachmann was once a frequent guest on Markell’s radio show, where she attacked gay rights and complained about the alleged persecution of American Christians. [...]
