"Beyond the challenge of running citywide campaigns for low-profile seats, the at-large candidates must contend with what’s being billed as the world’s first multi-seat election to be conducted via ranked choice voting (also known as instant runoff voting, or IRV) — without computers that can do the counting."

Northern Ireland and Ireland regularly conduct multi-seat STV elections which are counted by hand. In June, voters in the two jurisdictions elected 3 members of the European Parliament (MEP) from each of 5 constituencies, with roughly 400 to 500,000 votes cast in each, or about 5 times as many votes as will be cast in Minneapolis in November. These were counted the day following the election.

Republicans (I am not one) seem to get the blame for so many ills. Well, now with the last declared Republican gone from elected office, pretty much everything in both cites should be wall-to-wall milk and honey under the benevolent hand of DFL ideology.

Or, will local units of governement go on painting problems as the mess leftover from previous leadership, as they'll be doing in Washington DC for the next two terms?

Maybe there's something about the legalities I don't get. Why can't we have IRV for single-seat races, where it seems straightforward even in a handcount, and delay using it for multi-seat races?
