Sports gossip columnist Charley Walters comes up with a hilarious nugget in the “Shooter” column in today’s Pioneer Press. According to Walters, there’s a movement afoot to draft former Twins manager Tom Kelly to run for mayor of Maplewood. The notoriously cranky TK would certainly be an interesting match for the notoriously tumultuous inner-ring suburb. But alas, Kelly says he’s not interested. “I listened to them talk, they made their points, and I turned them down,” he told Walters.

Several candidates, however, have emerged for the post, according to the Pioneer Press. City council member Will Rossbach is eying a rematch with current mayor Diane Longrie, while former mayor Bob Cardinal wants his old job back. Former city council member Marvin Koppen is also in the race.
