Inclusion rockers for Obama

Bruce Springsteen, Arcade Fire endorse Obama; Hold Steady and Plastic Constellations next?

I read an article on MTV.com yesterday that made me smile and want to throw a fist in the air. It’s about some dudes from Minneapolis who came up with a concept “that could possibly change music forever.” All over a case of beer after a Bruce Springsteen concert. It’s called “Inclusion Rock” and it’s the idea that music should be written for everyone, that it should strive to generate a community vibe that causes total strangers to pump their fists in the air and shout together. Examples include Arcade Fire, The Hold Steady, The Plastic Constellations, and, of course, Bruce Springsteen.

Today, I noticed something that might or might not be a trend. Our sister site, The Washington Independent, reported in January that the Arcade Fire’s Win Butler had spoken out in favor of Barack Obama. Today, The New York Times’ Caucus blog notes The Boss himself has endorsed Obama in a letter to fans on his Web site:

He speaks to the America I’ve envisioned in my music for the past 35 years, a generous nation with a citizenry willing to tackle nuanced and complex problems, a country that’s interested in its collective destiny and in the potential of its gathered spirit. A place where ‘”…nobody crowds you, and nobody goes it alone.”

Is Obama wrapping up the Inclusion Rock vote? A Google search this morning didn’t turn up any signs of an endorsement from The Hold Steady or The Plastic Constellations. Maybe we’ll hear a clue on Saturday when TPC plays First Avenue?
