PhotobucketDemocratic Congressional Campaign Committee chairman Rep. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., announced that 3rd District DFL congressional candidate Ashwin Madia will be added to the DCCC’s Red to Blue program today. Madia will receive financial, communications and strategic support. In 2006, the program raised nearly $22.6 million for 56 campaigns.

“Congressman [Jim] Ramstad’s retirement and Ashwin Madia’s ability to unite Democrats behind his candidacy makes this suburban district a good pick-up opportunity for Democrats,” said Van Hollen.

clear thinking? Maybe Van Hollen should look at the demographics of the area before adding this guy to the program.

Looking like a pick-up for the Democrats Ashwin now needs two things to happen.

One, the national party needs to nominate Obama, who won’t be such a lightning rod motivator for the GOP.

Two, the Minnesota DFL needs to nominate Al Franken for US Senate – again, JNP’s socialist healthcare coat tails will be a liability in the 3rd, but Franken’s moderate stances on the war and healthcare will make lukewarm Coleman supporters feel like it’s safe to go shopping instead.

The GOP does not have a lock at all.  Particularly as they throw the moderates out of the party, many of whom are from the 3rd.

Madia has a great chance to pick up this seat.  Money well spent by the DCCC.

I was with.. You until you lost all sense by saying the dems needed to nominate Freakin. The guy has as much of a chance at winning as I do.

It’s a first This must be the first time the DCCC will give money to a candidate that voted for Bush in 2000

Funny thing is that the day before the convention, he said he voted for Gore,  and then after the convention admitted he voted for Bush.
