Many Americans are not aware of the wonderful work of the United Nations Population Fund which has strong programs against child marriage as well as against other forms of violence against women and girls. It also of course works for safe motherhood and family planning and the general empowerment of women and girls. Our grassroots movement 34 Million Friends has supported UNFPA during the lean Bush years but also now that our President has rejoined the world community by releasing funds to UNFPA. Asking one dollar from 34 million Amercians we have raised a lovely $4 million. When the world takes care of women, women take care of the world Good for Betty McCollum.
