Ellison Reaches Out to the ‘New Citizens’

In his efforts to reach out the increasing votes of new immigrants turned U.S. citizens, 5th District congressional candidate Keith Ellison appealed for the votes of the Somali community. Speaking at a fundraiser event for new a university in Somalia on Sunday, Ellison characterized the votes of the recently naturalized citizens, especially that of Somalis, a critical to get him elected.

Minnesota is home to the largest Somali population in North America.

Ellison appeared on Minnesota Television Network’s (MTN) Somali TV program last week. As a Muslim, he said, he will work towards peace in the world. He argues that America can’t resolve global problems by means of war. Instead, he said, the U.S. should utilize its global clout to promote peace and justice.
