Media Monitor: ‘No Deal’ for Bush, radiophonic refuge, and the world’s thinkiest

“No deal” on Bush ratings: With 69 percent of Americans disapproving of him, George W. Bush is the least popular president since the Gallup Poll was founded 70 years ago, but here’s an even more shocking low: The president’s Monday appearance on the NBC gameshow “Deal or No Deal” did nothing to spike viewership. In fact the much-hyped show saw ratings tied with its worst ever for a Monday night.
The warm embrace of radio: The technical director of Q107 in Fosston, Minn., came to work one morning recently to find an underwear-clad man passed out on a counter beside a pile of sopping clothes. The 29-year-old was charged with felony burglary and misdemeanor theft, but the station’s Jim Offerdahl says he doesn’t think the man meant harm: “He was just drunk, wet, cold and muddy and was looking for warmth. There is a swampy area near the station.”
Zizek? Chomsky? Gore? …Petraeus? Foreign Policy and Prospect magazines have compiled a list of the world’s top 100 public intellectuals and are asking readers to cast votes for the top five.
Late addition: Alexis McKinnis of Vita.mn’s “Alexis and the Sexes” column is threatening to sue City Pages if they reprint an email she sent them about a censored (or “held for revision”) column on oral sex techniques? As MinnPost’s David Brauer tweets, “Either that’s a joke or CP is really wimpy.”
