Longtime followers of Minnesota politics are well aware that Republican Sen. Norm Coleman used to be a Democrat. Another used-to-be Democrat, former Colorado Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell, has sent $2,000 along to Coleman’s campaign, according to Federal Elections Commission records for the last quarter.

Coleman was elected mayor of St. Paul as a Democrat. He switched to Republican in 1996. Campbell was elected to Congress as a Democrat and switched to Republican in 1995.

In college, as an anti-war activist, Coleman once said, “I know these conservative kids don’t f*** or get high like we do (purity, you know),” but today he’s more apt to side with President Bush. Coleman’s enthusiasm for the President has waned over the last two years, however, as Bush’s poll numbers have sunk to historic lows.
