There’s still no ruling from the Minnesota Supreme Court in the Norm Coleman-Al Franken dispute. The court released another regular Thursday morning batch of orders without a word on Minnesota’s U.S. Senate election. The word about the Coleman-Franken fight emblazoned across the cover of the Star Tribune is “agonizing,” but the story makes it sound more so for the few remaining staffers than for the candidates themselves.
Coleman is said to be grilling and kicking back at his cabin. Franken is blissing out because he knows there’s nothing he can do now to affect the ruling.
Meanwhile, their helpmates sweat bullets. Franken aide Jess McIntosh is on tenterhooks until she knows the Supreme Court justices have gone home for the day. And Coleman sidekick Tom Erickson tells the Strib’s Pat Lopez, “I’m afraid to even go to a movie.”
Which doesn’t quite compute with Erickson’s announcement via Twitter Wednesday:
Tomorrow I depart on my first vacation in 4 1/2 years. And no, I am not going to Argentina.
Franken refused to be interviewed, Lopez notes, but she doesn’t directly quote Coleman either, so it’s not clear what he did to help out with the story.

It’s a hung jury. They won’t issue a final ruling. This is not going to be a well thought out opinion. It will be a punt. They will abdicate their oblication.

Maybe, but there’s another theory — not sure if I buy it — that it’s taking so long so the court can make a legally iron-clad decision that allows no wiggle room for Pawlenty re: signing the election certificate.

whatever they rule will be used in future cases and could impact the way elections are run so I am sure they are being very careful.

This should not have gone to court in the first place. What a waste of time and money. I am sure the folks of Minn. ran a good election and the results and recount should have been the end of it. In these hard times, it is a sin that the GOP is wasting so much of their money. Sad for the folks in Minn. not be represented in a very important Congress.

Does the Mn Supreme Court ever issue a ruling immediately upon completion, rather than announcing a batch of decisions for the week on Thursdays?
I admit to substantial impatience to see their decision.

There are probably third world countries that have better election systems then Minnesota. There is a related post at http://iamsoannoyed.com/?p=1952

I think that the court is waiting until Tuesday to order pawpy-t to certify Franken. Since the U.S. Supreme Court goes into summer recess on Monday they won’t be around after Tuesday to agree to hear the case and the pawp will have less legitimate looking options in disobeying the court’s order.
