U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann is “intelligent” whereas Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is a “trained monkey” in the estimation of Libertarian scribe Karen De Coster, writing at Taki’s Magazine.
Takimag has a paleoconservative/Libertarian take on the world, which Bachmann’s fundamentalist Christian approach rankles. But most everything else – from her alarm over light bulbs, world currency and forced government labor to her doubt about global warming, and especially her worries about the U.S. census – sounds pretty good:
Be mindful that Bachmann is actually intelligent, unlike Sarah Palin, who is a trained monkey and came out of nowhere, thanks to her gender, sprightly sparkle, and the problems with McCain’s uninspiring, snooze-a-rama campaign. Bachmann is also articulate and pretty — which is never detrimental to a woman in politics—and comes across as steady and confident. The attribute of hers that gives me hope is her tendency to reveal recurring signs of un-Republican-like behavior. Questioning the constitutionality of the census and making Timothy Geithner stutter like a pickled parrot are just a couple of strong points in her favor.
De Coster seems to see a role for Bachmann — playing Robin to U.S. Rep. Ron Paul’s Batman:
I’d like to see Bachmann continue along her path, learning from Ron Paul and finding her rebel roots. And she appears to be educable! Which is more than you can say for most everyone else in Congress. And she’s not afraid to stand in the firing line on her own. Let’s watch this lady carefully over the next couple of years. There may be many more bright moments. …
Ron Paul, who’s long been a man on a lone crusade, needs all the assistance he can get on the House floor.

With all due respect, and no affection toward Bachmann, why should we care what the elitist, border-line racist TakiRag has to say about anything?

Considering Rep. Bachmann’s vocal and enthusiastic support for the neoconservative foreign policy of the Bush administration and Bachmann’s own fundamentalist brand of theocratic evangelical activism, Ron Paul supporters (and libertarians generally) shouldn’t be giving Bachmann the time of day — much less allow themselves to be coopted by her.
Did Bachmann support Dr. Paul in the 2008 Republican primary?
(The answer is No.)

A little intellectual honesty please. She made Geitner stammer, not because of the brilliant box she painted him into. She made him stammer because he never could have prepared for or been ready for a question that seemed crafted by someone who had a 3rd grade foreign exchange student understanding of the constitution.
Just to refresh you memory, she asked Geitner what part of the constitution gave him authority to perform the bailouts. The correct and only real acceptable answer would have been, “Well, Representative Bachmann, you gave us the authority you moron.” In other words, the constitution authorizes the congress to make laws. Then the constitution requires government agencies to execute laws. Unless Bachmann doesn’t think her congress has the authority to pass laws, which is a possibility since she has never authored any successful legislation. However you look at it, Bachmann has about a 3rd grade perspective on the constitution. So, it probably caught Geitner off guard that someone could be that stupid.

“Congress can make laws, therefore Congress can make ANYTHING Constitutional just by passing the law.”
By that same logic, Alec, there is no Constitution, because a bunch of empowered political elties who are elected by morons like you can make anything law – murder, rape, abridgement of private property, etc. – and thus Congress is the ONLY law. Re-read the Constitution, Alec, about the scope of congressional ability to “make laws.”
Alec, you have a 1st-grade mentality of the Constitution, and you are just the kind of stupid, useful idiot that the state loves. Furthermore, you should refrain from commenting on that which you know nothing about.

Palin schmalin, This Ron Paul chic likes Michele Bachmann. A reformed neocon is the best kind, and if you cross out anyone who previously supported the Iraq invasion, you cross out everybody. Maybe she woke up. I like her and she can spread the freedom message. You go girl. I like anyone who is willing to take on the Republican party confidently.

I still remain skeptical of Bachmann, but I like her better than Palin. Palin is no good without rehearsed talking points and one-liners. She sounds like a soccer mom who’s out of her league when she attempts to defend conservative principles against Left wing accusations.

Alec: Your comment posted at 12:04 pm references what Eric Kleefeld at Talking Points Memo has dubbed “The Bachmann Effect.”
http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2009/03/beholdthe-bachmann-effect.php
“When Bachmann is out there talking about the issues in an adversarial setting, her opponents find themselves on a very unsure footing — mainly because they’re shocked and befuddled to hear what she’s saying.
“Check out these three examples, in reverse-chronological order:
“The first was from today’s Financial Services hearing, when she demanded an answer from Tim Geithner as to what the constitutional basis was for his actions in the bailout. The second is from a debate this past October with her Democratic opponent El Tinklenberg. And the third is from an appearance on Larry King Live during the Republican Convention, in a peculiar exchange with James Carville.”

I have been routinely amazed by the lunacy emanating from Bachmann’s brain. Tonight I decided it was time to see exactly where this loon was educated. Much to my surprise, Bachmann’s college education appears sound. As summarized on Wikipedia:
Undergraduate degree from Winona State University
J.D. degree from Oral Roberts University
LL.M. degree in tax law from the College of William and Mary’s Marshall-Wythe School of Law
How can this be? An apparently well-educated woman with two law degrees who demonstrates an absolute dearth of knowledge about law, history, government, economics, religion (other than Christian Evangelism), science……

If she is educated in Tax Law, she must have missed a few classes. Google Tom Cryer and maybe Sherry Peel Jackson for a education with a little truth thrown in.
Don’t underestimate Sarah Palin, as a dad of a couple ice skaters who have been all the way through Hockey, Speed Skating, Dance, Figures, and now for Disney on Ice, I understand a little better her exposure to real life.
