Rep. Keith Ellison offered a unique strategy on the health reform debate on the public option: he took his video camera to the House floor to discuss the issue. Long a supporter of single-payer health care, Ellison has been outspoken about his support for a public option to the health reform bill. And now, he’s gotten his colleagues to speak out as well:

Rep. Ellison is one of the more vocal congressmen of the health care debate. This is a novel strategy. I hope he gets on the Your Congress-Your Health initiative and encourages his colleagues to do the same as well. Getting the entire US Congress on record with *substantive* information about health care reform would force our representation in Washington to finally make up their minds and give us, the electorate, a better idea of where they stand.

That’s exactly what the President should have done. Take it to the floor and let them explain to the American people why they all have health care and don’t want to give the people who vote them into office the same or equal coverage. Bravo for Rep. Ellison!

This is a wonderful way to start my day, especially after watching Bill Moyers last night with Wendell Potter of Cigna. 72% of the American public want a Single Payer Universal Health Care system. People before profits has to end. People are dying – will it be you next? Will it be me? How many more have to die before the scales are tipped away from profit?
Thank you, Congressman Ellison, for showing there are some out there who truly understand. I wish Indiana had representatives truly representing the people.

Fantastic!
More video of Congressmen/women and Senaters stating where they stand on the public option. More video of business people stating the value of competition for their health care dollars. More video of everyday people on the street who have been hurt by for profit health care companies.
I think the American people need to hear more than just the talking heads on cable news or radio trying to marginalize those who support the public option by calling pubic option supporters as “left wing ” or fringe or political activists. Normal everyday people want and need this option.
Thank you!

Many on the Progressive site. “Democratic Underground” really like Rep Ellison’s Single Payer Public Option ” Healthcare. Many are jealous that they don’t have a Rep that is for the “People”.
Are you listening Sen Klobuchar? We want Single Payer Healthcare Especially in Rural MN.

Health care is preventing small businessmen like me from expanding and making it near impossible to put aside any money to help my children pay for college. The overwhelming majority of Americans are in favor of a single payer or public option and too many of our representatives are choosing to support the major insurance companies and drug companies. We all need to vote these representatives out of office and bring in people that will put the best interests of the people they represent ahead of corporate interests.

“put the best interests of the people they represent ahead of corporate interests.”
But Bill, that’s really just Socialism! We’re supposed to be scared of it!
