Winona County, I wouldn't bother waiting on an opinion from the attorney general's office. Pawlenty pulled Swanson aside before he made the unallotments, and made it clear that she didn't have the political capital necessary to fight them. That's what Swanson gets for busting a union in her office, and for having the Minnesota Legislative Auditor's office confirm that she engaged in unethical conduct (ordering attorneys to falsify affidavits, file frivolous lawsuits to get press, etc.). And fellow DFLers, this is what we get to turning a blind eye to Swanson's misdeeds - an AG so weak that she can't take on the governor. So far the republicans have sat back and watched Swanson slowly destroy herself and the AG's office, but if she tries to fight the unallotments, Pawlenty will bury her.

channel 5 news ran a clip last night of pawlenty saying that we need to not let the people chose what is best for them, the government should.

doesn't directly apply to this article, but it certainly helps explain his mindset -

if anyone has a transcript or the video that would be awesome -

thanks from space,

Is it legal in Minnesota for a governor to be able to unilaterally raise taxes? Isn't that what Pawlenty did to renters in the state? Or am I misunderstanding that part of Pawlenty's unallotment?

“I think we could pass that. The question is: would the governor sign it?”

No. I think Marty is just being polite or rhetorical by phrasing that as a question. Would any Republicans in the House support a veto override? I doubt it, except for the hope they'll respond to the argument that a DFL governor could abuse this power as Pawlenty did. The might be greater in hope in a couple Republican representatives leaving office and forcing special elections. Those have worked out well for the DFL. We need only two. Appoint them to something Pawlenty!
