Please define "shady".

Is he voting for something that would help the donor's profits, like the Commandant Kline? No, but there's not much any shadier than that.

Why anyone is surprised by this is a mystery to me. The guy danced around his shady background during his campaign, why would you expect he would do anything different now?

The 5th district got the man they deserve.

It is ashame that Keith Ellison keeps obfuscating on the issue, and making it much worse instead of just disclosing the information and laying the issue to rest. It is obvious that a private interest group paid for his trip because he is a congressperson; no one else could expect to receive an all expense paid trip overseas. Whether he had a personal motivation for the trip or a political motivation, or both, the public has the right to know the details just like all the other trips that congresspersons get paid by private interest groups and have to disclose. This practice should be barred, but disclosure is all the public can get. Ellison's claim that his position was cleared by the ethics committee was in fact reported by the Star Tribune. It might be a slight point in Ellison's favor, but does not absolve him. He has a responsibility to exercise better independent judgment and recognize that the information should be disclosed. His stubborn adherence to his position continues to make it unnecessarily worse for him. He could have so easily put the controversy to rest by disclosing the information in response promptly. The public is instead left to wonder what Ellison has to hide?
