Rep. Michele Bachman has said she and her family will only answer one Census question next year — how many people live in her home — and she’s urged others to do the same. While that’s caused worry for some in her party, it’s more of a problem for a colleague closer to home. Minnesota Democratic Sen. Amy Klobuchar is pleading with citizens to cooperate with the 2010 tally, saying it may hurt Minnesota if they don’t.
“The Census has a profound impact on Minnesota’s communities,” Klobuchar said in a statement. “It’s important that every Minnesotan is counted, so we get our fair share of congressional seats and federal funding.”
Bachmann might act out of self-interest here: her district tops some lists of those most likely affected should Minnesota be redistricted out of a seat in the House of Representatives.

It’s kind of funny. I was doing some genealogical research and looking at Census records from 1880 and 1900 and gee, people said how old they were and what their relationship was to other members of the household, and what type of work they did and lots of other information.
Apparently they weren’t true Americans, since they filled out all this information almost 150 years ago and their descendants have been doing it since. Funny how now it is such a big inconvenience or threat or unlawful or whatever the spin of the day is.
