The National Republican Congressional Committee has added another Minnesota representative to its list of most vulnerable incumbents for 2010: Rep. Michele Bachmann joins Rep. Erik Paulsen in the NRCC’s “Patriot Program,” Roll Call reports.
The NRCC announced it is adding 15 more candidates to its fundraising program, bumping the total count of incumbents to 25. Bachmann’s addition means she’ll compete to make a final cut of 10 candidates who’ll participate in the next “Patriot Day,” a one-day fundraiser that brought in almost $100,000 last time it was held, in June.
The NRCC’s program, modeled after the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s 42-member “Frontline” program, is “designed to hold Members accountable for their own re-election campaigns,” Roll Call (subscription only) reports. “If the incumbent does not meet certain benchmarks for fundraising and infrastructure, they will not get financial help from the NRCC.”
The Swing State Project states that Bachmann is in “real danger” next election; she’s among three “Patriot Program” members elected with the lowest margin of victory in 2008 — three percentage points or less.

Bachmann is an idiot and ANYONE who would vote for her is an IDIOT too. Bachman looks and acts like she is on some serious drugs, look at her eyes, they look like they are about to RUN out of her head. It also looks like in the pics I have seen she is losing some serious weight, these are ALL signs of drug abuse. Bachman is a nutcase, and should NEVER hold ANY political power in local, state or federal government positions.

As usual, like most liberal comments, Mr. Stevens’ comments deal with emotion and not any stated facts. I could state “Mr. Stevens an idiot”, but without facts, like his, it falls flat. Please deal with facts sir, and not pictures. I guess it’s not ok to be naturally thin. Having seen her many times in person, she’s always been that thin. Oh, and watching her constituents loosing jobs because of a failing economy and President, I’d loose weight over stress not drugs. Oh and Mr. Stevens, I don’t live in her District, but would vote for her because I agree with her policies, and dedication to her voters, and doing what’s right for Minnesota and this great country. So I guess I’m an idiot too.

Bachmann is in danger because she’s batshit insane. Not to be a “concern troll or anything, but the GOP would do itself a favor, not to mention save itself a ton of cash, by cutting off some of its more suspect members. They’re not getting a majority in 2010 anyway, and the sooner they lose their public image as a party of nutjobs, racists and Objectivists, the better for them.

Ludwig, your “feelings” on this politician are as empty as any of the other comments. It isn’t a fact that her policies are good. It isn’t a fact that she is dedicated to her voters. These are your opinions, your feeling on the situation. How is that any different from any of the other comments? The fact is, a failing economy can’t be blamed on one man, neither Bush nor Obama. The fact is that she is one small voice in an incredibly shrinking minority. You may not be an idiot but your blinders are keeping you from seeing the picture clearly.

So, Murray, making your district and your state look like a bunch of lunatics is “doing what’s right for Minnesota and this great country?” Let me give you a clue from someone who has never even been to Minnesota–Michelle Bachmann is doing for Minnesota’s image what Sarah Palin has done for Alaska’s image, which is to reveal to an astounded nation just how utterly stupid some voters can be in these two states.
And for the record: Obama has been in office for barely half a year. Bush was in office for eight. Obama hasn’t even had time to fail, while Bush’s record of incompetence, abuse of power, and unmitigated arrogance is unmistakeably clear.

Murray you may not be an “idiot” but if you would vote for this bigot and hate monger, you must be one as well. I agree you shouldn’t call her crazy just because she looks and ticks like a lunatic, but her actions and words have proved to the country she is a nut. She is neither a patriot or a good American, she would investigate everyone and make them take loyalty oaths..sounds like the beginnings of national socialism (the nazi movement which is nothing like socialism but is fascism) in Germany before World War II. This woman is a joke, she just spews out the worst extreme right wing propaganda that is out there, she does no fact checking and feels she shouldn’t be held accountable for the malicious things she says. If the people of Minn. have any class they will vote this joke out in 2010. I know I will support the dem. or indpendent that can win against her. Then I won’t have to hear her hateful speech anymore. I will admit she was amusing at first, but it is time to move past her horrible style of politics.

Murray Ludwig, if you would honestly vote for Michelle Bachman on the merits of her arguments, then you are correct. You do have mental illness. Do you like her photo ops with her pink machine gun? She makes off the wall accusations that are fact checked and proven wrong by the largest non partisan organizations in the country but facts never bother Michelle. She’s right back out with the lies the next day. If religion drives her and draws you, then I wonder what religion it is, because her comments are certainly not reflective of what Jesus taught or said. I live in Michigan. We have the distinction of having the highest unemployment in the country, but we still elect people to federal offices who are intelligent and well reasoned—see Carl Levin. Being out of work is not an excuse for being irresponsible to the country by electing people who don’t understand that in America, by virtue of the Constitution that has protected us for well over 200 years, we keep church and state separate. And without her religion, there are no intellectual reasons to support Bachman and many reasons not to.

Bachman’s wacky-doodle-ocity is not a liberal or a conservative point of view. Back in the 90’s we Democrats had our own nutjob James Traficant, and that guy clearly deserved to be hoisted from office. There was little or no argument from us.
Bachmann’s erratic behavior and deranged speeches go well beyond foot-in-mouth, and is at the least embarrassing and at most dangerous. Minnesotan republicans should find someone to run against her so they have a chance to keep a Republican in that seat.

Bacjman claiming the only wat to end unemployment is to do away with the minimum wage. Does she thing that will end unemployment? I’d love to see her work for minimum wages and not have the taxer paid healthcare she so much enjoys. This woman truely is unfit to represent any district. Only in America, with the possible exception of N. Korea, can someone so obviously insane gain a prominent position in Congress. It’s obvious that she panders to the rightwingnuts who have somehow bought the line that our government is evil, which they prove every time they gain control. Only in America is socialized medicine evil while making a profit from illness and accident is “the American way!” Up until the day Obama was sworn in, $10.6 trillion of our $11 trillion deficit was rung up during the reagan/bush/bush administrations. Never once while they were in power did you hear them complain about deficit spending, those complaints are reserved for the rare times a Democrat is in the White House. In their world we should be the world’s policeman, bearing all the costs of building and maintaining 186 major military bases on foreign soil. Much of this is spent so we can have “cheap” oil, which actually costs us more like $1,000 bbl when this is considered. The rest of the world ride our coat tails for free. Michelle Bachmann gets her health care for free, hopefully they have a great mental health component for her. If she runs against a rabid dog, I will contribute all I can to the rabid dog.

To Murray Ludwig, I wish there was a way that you could vote for her. That way, while Rome continues to burn, the other side of the aisle can continue to point at this fruitcake and remind not just the state of MN, but the entire party that’s why we’re having problems in this country. While we’re dealing with a difficult economy, two wars, and health care through the roof, we’ve got congresspeople that are saying…let’s just call it what it is, treasonous things that aren’t helping in the least. Your state has been hiding it’s head in shame and even her party has been telling her to close her maw, but she won’t be silenced. Since unfortunately Sister Sarah’s leaving, (although I think she won’t go away from the cam) we’ll need to have someone that’ll remind us how we got into the jam that we’re in. She’ll work just fine. In a shrinking minority with no power to change the course, but doing everything it can to derail anything that remotely resembles a solution.

Murry Lugwig states: “like most liberal comments, Mr. Stevens’ comments deal with emotion and not any stated facts” and further states: “watching her constituents loosing jobs because of a failing economy and President”. BeeEss!
Murry Ludwig, sweeping generalizations and right-wing extremist talking points do not a persuasive argument make. U.S. jobs are gone primarily as a direct result of Wall Street, venture capital and otherwise wealthy business owners (largely, right-wingers) deliberately moving operations offshore to take advantage of lax environmental regulation, tax loopholes and to exploit low cost labor i.e. screw the American worker for the sake of higher profits. Second, our President is not “failing” but fighting against deeply entrenched and badly misguided public officials and the ignorant element of their constituentcies. Such public officials make a fool of those too tired or lazy to learn for themselves what is really going on. They are playing you for a fool and winning big. The failure you allude to is the direct result of right-wing extremists in public office choosing self-interest over and above their constitutional duties. Big difference there. Turn off the tv and right-wing hate speech radio, go to the library or the coffee shop and READ. Maybe bring a dictionary too. Democracy is no place for the ignorant or the intellectually lazy.

IceNine in Maryland: It’s understandable that you would see Rep. Bachmann as a “National Joke” from your vantage point back East, but as someone who has observed Bachmann up close (as her Republican primary opponent last year and as a volunteer for Democrat Patty Wetterling against Bachmann in 2006), please bear with me.
I find it deeply disturbing when observers dismiss Bachmann as a mere embarrassment, cheap entertainment, a stealth weapon to relegate the GOP to permanent minority status, or a fundraising magnet for Democrats.
In my opinion, that is a grave mistake.
The message I’m trying to convey to 6th District constituents in my campaign against Bachmann is that the situation we face is deadly serious — especially in a time of economic uncertainty (such as the German people faced in the years preceding World War II).
As defenders of democracy and our American way of life, we cannot allow Bachmann to remain in a position where political power amplifies her voice and animates a large and growing national audience.
Make no mistake: people like Bachmann are dangerous in positions of political power.
Bachmann is *not* a buffoon (though she might appear that way to the casual observer). Bachmann does *not* misspeak nor make careless gaffes. And she’s not an entertainer. Like the late Sen. Joe McCarthy, Rep. Michele Bachmann is a member of the United States Congress.
What Bachmann says is what she truly believes. Her demagoguery, fear-mongering, and incendiary rhetoric energizes and mobilizes political extremists, some of whom may lack the clarity of judgment and self-restraint on which we rely for a civil society and a nation of laws.
Always Remember: “Never Again”

Michelle Bachman shouldn’t be dropped by the Republicans because of her “looks”, as unusual as they may be. She should be dropped at the nomination level because she has a knack for saying incredibly bizarre and unsubstantiated things, while giving the impression she doesn’t actually have ANY facts to back anything up. An interview with Ms. Bachmann is painful to watch on many levels because she makes it up while going along…calling on congress to investigate its anti-american members? This from a party whose majority of members dedicated 7+ years to eviscerating the constitution and abetting crimes by the executive (the dems didn’t fare much better).
The Republicans are in a post-election slump and at a crossroads as well. If they shed/disavow their bad luggage (Bush, Cheney, Bachmann, Limbaugh) and develop actual policy proposals they can easily have a chance to recover within 4-8 years. But they need to lose the bottom of the barrel. Right now, the most vocal Republicans are the Birther/anti-constitution, anti-law wing. They may only be 10-15% of the base, but their presence there prevents normal, rational patriots from buying in. Lose ‘em now, take yer lumps and the party COULD survive. But not with mouthpieces like Bachmann.
The situation is ripe for a new rational republican leader to come up the middle and lay claim to sane policy. Any takers?

The only word or metaphor that comes to mind when I see Bachmann on C-Span or any other station is dangerous…..another is cunning and yes, pathological. She says things and then denies she ever said them, it doesn’t matter if you then run the entire tape of the interview unedited, she lies about it and never takes responsibility for her hateful, spiteful words. A classic example of this was the interview last fall with Chris Matthews on Hard Ball.
I am sick to death of these individuals who proclaim that they are on a higher moral ground than the rest of us, more patriotic, more American, etc. Never, never again, will anyone question me or my patriotism because I did not support the Iraq War…..I took a lot of abuse at the time…I was in favor of going after Bin Laden but not Iraq.

I have it documented on video at the link below. You’ll see Alan Colmes on Fox News reading, from the actual “Hardball” transcript, Bachmann’s statement that the media “should do a penetrating expose and take a look at the views of the people in Congress and find out if they’re pro- or anti-America.”
Bachmann responds by saying, “Actually, that’s not what I said at all.”
Colmes retorts, “Well, I’m reading your exact quote.”
Bachmann persist in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary: “Actually that’s not what I said. It’s an urban legend that was created. That isn’t what I said at all.”
Colmes (in frustration): “It’s on tape.”

As a non-Minnesotan, I can only conclude that everyone in Minnesota is like Michelle Bachmann. And you folks really shouldn’t be too bothered by that. She brings me much joy — so earnest, so innocent, and so oblivious to the reaction of others to what she is saying. You folks aren’t saying that Minnesotans aren’t all like that, are you? I happen to know Lake Woebegone is a mythical body of water, so don’t give me that stuff about all the children are above average.

Bachmann wanted Congress to investigate certain liberals for loyalty to America. She blamed blacks for the sub prime mortgage meltdown. Does anybody need to go on with example of her hatred?

I meant to say a Palin-Bachman ticket in “0-twelve!” I forgot that pitchfork waving Palin fans at one rally last fall prefaced the years of the the second decade years in this new millenium with a zero as if they hadn’t ever been exposed to the concept of place value in math. Woefully undereducated just like their idol. Michelle would fit right in.

This woman just pops up and says some of the craziest stuff I have ever heard. Now, I’m not to happy with our Sen. Ben Nelsen right now either, but at least he makes some sense when he talks, and he picks his battles wisely and speaks intelligently about them. She does try to revise what she says to, as she can’t seem to remember or listen to her own quotes. What is that about? It’s not the 50″s where we didn’t have U-tube,internet for fast replays! She just goes around saying she didn’t say that, when you can loop it and catch her saying that! It’s a never ending story of this lady saying things that make no sense, or out of line with reality. Has nothing to do with how she looks, or how thin she is!

Luckily we live close enough to the U.S. that we know her view isn’t shared by many. Unfortunately, the wordwide view of Americans is tarnished because of people like her and GWB. Fortunately, President Obama has begun to restore the sheen……..cheers and good luck in 2010!

But, that’s ok because people in other states are ridiculing the people of Minnesota for voting for Franken. Perhaps, you all should elect Perez Hilton as governor! It seems like that would be a good match for the majority of the population in Minnesota.

TIME OUT.
This has nothing to do who the Sixth Districts voters elect in November 2010, this is all about FUNDRAISING on Patroit Day. Bachmann has always been a good fundraiser … and with her name on the list of 25, she will bring in lots of dollars for the party … that she cannot possible spend in her campaign.
NOTE : So far this year, Bachmann has had eleven fundraisers in DC … if you missed out, bring $500 to Finemondo Restaurant on July 29th and you can enjoy dinner with her.
Regarding the election, since Bob Anderson indicates that he will run again as the Independence Party nominee, outraged voters will have an alternative to voting for the dreaded Democrat or Bachmann. So unless she gets defeated by Aubrey Immelman or someone else in the MN-GOP primary, she will win again.

And after eight years of a devastating, Chauncey Gardiner presidency, America needs some time to recover.

Linda commented July 24 @ 1:30 am: “You all would reject any happy, successful mom that stands by conservative principles.”
Linda: That’s the false image of Rep. Bachmann that mainstream media in Minnesota presented until early this year, when first the St. Cloud Times, several smaller newspapers, and finally the Star Tribune began to call Bachmann on her extremism and hypocrisy.
As commenter Bill Prendergast explained:
“Up til last year, the description of Michele Bachmann that could be offered by people familiar with her name would be ‘attractive social conservative rising star, an outspoken Reagan mom of faith who wants to cut your taxes.’ That was the image that Bachmann and the right wanted to present, and almost every piece of professional media in this state accepted that definition of Bachmann at face value.
“We [the Dump Bachmann blog] didn’t. We were convinced almost from the beginning that Bachmann was a nut, a liar, and bigot. And a political extremist and stealth theocrat posing as a member of the conservative right in order to remain electable. We were also convinced that she was potentially dangerous …”

How can one argue with the fact that her extremist, out of touch beliefs are not documented and the judgements about her are not based on fact? She has been documented on tv and in the newspaper saying outragous statements and spewing hatered. And then when called on it, she says, “that is not what I said.” How would you discribe a person like that? Honorable? Truthful? Reliable source of information? She has earned the reputation she has. From the night that she kissed Pres. bush and continued to keep her had on his shoulder as if she were a good friend, was only the beginning of her downslide. And from what state are you? S.C, IA, AZ, or any of the states that have had representatives or senators being identified as possible “birthers”, and making hateful statements. It would be interesting to know if you support these people as well. And if you do, that says a lot about you and your beliefs.

Oh and for the experts out there, 6 months isn’t long enough for scholars to decide whether a president has done anything. Hell, its even too early for Bush (although we all know the results already). It takes up to 8 years or more AFTER the president has left office to determine their worth.
So ease up sore losers and gloaters alike. The results will be in eventually.

I heard one truly intelligent comment from a Republican strategist one time. She said, “I think that much of the vitriol in partisan debates comes from the fact that members of the two parties essentially disagree on ‘American exceptionalism.”
Michelle Bachman believes everything she was taught in 5th grade. Most of us kept learning new things after the age of 10.

In answer to Steve,
What do mean by equating Jesse Ventura and Al Franken with Michelle Loo-loo-land Bachman? Jesse Ventura is one of my heroes. He is a former navy SEAL who very publicly called out Dick Cheney as a cowardly draft-dodger who not only promoted torture, but needlessly sent thousands of Americans into harms way.
And Al Franken! Al Franken is not just a comedian, he is an extremely intelligent man who has a degree in political science from Harvard.

I don’t know for a fact that Rep. Bachmann is not a mentally retarded lunatic because she has refused to release her medical records to the public, nor do I know for sure that she’s not a lizard alien from Planet Zero dressed up in human skin that she bought at some garage sale because she has not released a birth certificate I can actually believe in. So let me repeat that I don’t know for sure that she’s a lizard lunatic from another planet, but I couldn’t swear to it on a stack of Bibles. I personally find it troubling that she won’t clarify these issues once and for all and put these nasty rumors to bed. So as far as I know she’s not some disgusting mutant life form that suffers from mental illness and really weird hair, but since I haven’t seen any compelling documentation to the contrary, I can’t really say that she’s not.

Michele Bachmann does not represent her constituents well because she speaks for only a portion of the population. She works to strike fear in the hearts of people and seeks to create hostility between those she “represents”. All in the name of Christianity. This is not the Christianity I was raised to believe in nor live by as an adult. We need politicians who strive to unite our country and who speak well of all people, not just those who agree with them. Michele Bachmann needs to be voted out of office.

It is sad how our country has become a place where Christian’s are attacked for the beliefs. I don’t know that I believe that stating you are running because God suggested to is bad. Just because a person believes in God does not make them bad. Some people speak to allah and yet you don’t speak horribly of them. Others, like our current president, say they are Christian and quote scripture yet don’t attend church and when they do it go to some place that is anti-white, anti-American and generally hateful. Yet all you can babble about are the “right wing”, “nut job” name calling that come with being a part of the liberal elite. Shame on all you idiots who can’t speak of someone without tearing down the way they look, the way they speak or their religious beliefs. When the secular progressives have stripped God, family, morals, hard work, personal responsibility from our society you will truly wonder what happened.
