The morning after: What will Hillary do?

Sen. Barack Obama came to St. Paul last night and claimed the Democratic presidential nomination. In the very building where John McCain will be crowned the GOP candidate in September, Obama spoke to more than 17,000 raucous supporters. “America, this is our moment,” he proclaimed. “This is our time. The time to turn the page on the policies of the past.”

Meanwhile Hillary Clinton fittingly delivered a pugnacious non-concession speech from a concrete bunker, pretty much cut off from outside communication. Michael Crowley elicited this bunker gem from Flat-Earth Society president Terry McAuliffe. “Tonight was Hillary’s night!” he exclaimed. “We won tonight! We won in South Dakota! We keep winning!”

The HillaryGrassrootsCampaign claims it has a half-million supporters (hard-working, white supporters, undoubtedly) who will back Clinton in the general election no matter what comes to pass. It’s unclear if Terry McAulife is affiliated with this group.

BET Founder Bob Johnson is urging, via Rep. James Clyburn, Obama to pick Hillary as his VP, a post she not-so-subtly lobbied for in a phone call with Congressional allies yesterday afternoon.

Chris Cillizza has a strong post-mortem examining what went wrong with the Clinton campaign. The short answer: arrogance, infighting, and Bill.

Obama and Clinton are both speaking at the AIPAC policy conference this morning. Will they speak to each other?

The current delegate count: 2,159.5 to 1,933. But we still haven’t heard from Rep. Collin Peterson, Minnesota’s last uncommitted superdelegate. Apparently he’s waiting  for Obama to visit him in Detroit Lakes.
