[...] I try not to blog about politics, but the whole ordeal of passing Health Care Reform (HCR) in the U.S. stunned me. I can understand political fights and in-fighting. I can understand passionate debate over issues. I can even understand deep personal convictions even if I don’t agree with them. However, I was shocked by the hate, rhetoric and downright nastiness expressed by those who didn’t get their way. I don’t think there is much doubt that the Republican Party has been held hostage (willing or not is another question) by a strong, conservative religious constituent. I also think it is pretty obvious that the insurance companies brought this upon themselves. Greed trumps compassion for many of these companies. They aren’t in the business to help people but to make money at the expense of sick people. They didn’t even have the sense enough to stop throwing people out of their insurance programs, thus giving even more ammunition to the opposition, during the HCR debates. The fact is, we needed reform. However, I don’t want to focus on the issue of HCR but rather the hatred by many in the religious right in response to HCR. (e.g. More Christian Conservatives Against Healthcare Reform, Opposition to Health-Care Reform Revives Christian Right, Religious right watch: Health care reform is against God’s design) [...]

Health care reform is against God’s design.
Realy?
What they are saying is that GOD dont want people
who cant afford to purchase healthcare to have
healthcare.

Heres what Jesus himself said.
Mathew 5:42
do not turn away from the one who Seeks your help.

The fact that so many people are crying for our government to supply our healthcare is a a symptom of many things that are out of whack. For one, the Body of Christ is not doing it's job. I have a question for my fellow Christians, how much of your salary do you give away? How much time do you volunteer? I am right there with you? I DO NOT want the government taking my money forcibly to pay for a government run healthcare system, but we need to do more to help our neighbors in need.
Liberals, this question goes to you, too? How many of you are willing to put your money where you mouth is? You think this won't effect your pocket? The government is not a business and you are asking them to get into one of the most complicated business around. Really? That's what you want? Because the do such a great job with the current business at hand, like bank bailouts and car company take-overs?
I do believe that God wants us to help the poor and the sick. I don't believe He wants us to give over that responsibility to the government. Remember how sad He was when His people begged for a King? He told Samuel to let them have their king and to warn them of what he would do.
This type of socialistic government is not what you will want it to be. Those doctors that can choose not to be a part of this system will do so. Those of us who can choose our own private health insurance will do so. Will the government then force the doctors to work for them. Will they force us to use the government health plan? How much strong arming to you want? Doctors and therapists are already rising against those companies that strong arm them into providing for unreasonable payments. We have great insurance, but there are some therapists who will only work out of network with us because United is insisting they charge less than what will cover their costs. That makes it harder for us, but I support their decision. A free market WILL work.

Those of you who are without insurance, how many bedrooms do you have that sit empty most of the time? How often do you eat out? Do you have a DSL? Cable? Internet Access? How many shoes did you buy last month? This doesn't apply to everyone, but a lot of you don't have a "lack of insurance" problem. You have a lack of fiscal responsibility. If you want insurance, make room in your budget to buy it.

Finally, Everyone, I mean Everyone needs to be giving more. Money is not a finite substance. When it is given freely and with a giving heart, it grows exponentially in its value. When it is taken it withers and decays and makes those who took it even more corrupt.

Any Conservatives who use God's word to twist their agenda against heatlhcare are going against God's design. Christ showed compassion on the poor and sick and urged others to do so in his ministry (Matthew 14:14). There is NOTHING in the Bible that says that it is against "God's design" or HIS will on how a government should handle healthcare. It is ethical and moral to work together to help to better the lives of those who are struggling. Does that mean handouts - no - but all the arguments conservative tea baggers put forth about God not wanting healthcare is falsifying God's word and taking scripture out of context. This is a political issue, I can tell you one thing - our government was founded on separation of church and state. However if you do want to bring God into the issue:

Matthew 22:21 They said to Him, "Caesar's." Then He said to them, "Then render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's; and to God the things that are God's."

Prov. 14:31 Anyone who oppresses the poor is insulting God who made them. To help the poor is to honor God.

Prov. 21:13 He who shuts his ears to the cries of the poor will be ignored in his own time of need.

"Health care is not a ‘right’. Liberals are all abaut ‘gimme gimme’, whether it be welfare of quotas for blacks in the private sector…Wanthealth care? Get job and buy it. Don’t expect to reach in my wallet so you can have health care.

You have a bad back or some ailment and need health care? that ain’t my problem."

Spoken like a real Christian. When Jesus come upon the lame and blind didn't He say, "Ain't my problem, get a job and heal yourself!"

Oh wait, He did say you can't serve God and mammon (money.) Sounds like you've already chosen to worship good old fashioned mammon.

The "Christian" religious right says Jesus doesn't believe in healing the sick, at least not with government funds. They also say that Jesus hates gays. The Muslim kook fringe says Allah tells them to kill anyone whose religion and culture they disagree with. With gods like these, who needs Satan?
