A KSTP-Survey USA poll released today shows Sen. Norm Coleman with a seven-point lead over Democratic challenger Al Franken. A similar poll taken in July found the incumbent with a 13-point lead.

It’s the second bit of good polling news for Franken in recent days. A Rassmussen Reports survey released on Friday showed the race to be a dead heat, with each candidate earning support from 45 percent of likely voters.

The KSTP poll also tested the strength of Franken’s chief rival for the Democratic nomination, Priscilla Lord Faris. The attorney trails Coleman by 18 percentage points in a head-to-head matchup, 45 to 27 percent.

The survey had a margin of error of 3.8 percent.

The 27% for Faris is the number that will vote for any DFLer. I would too, even though I hate her effort to undercut Franken. Why is she doing this? And does she think she’ll ever get a party endorsement after this?

FiveThirtyEight has it as virtualy a dead heat as of 10/20. They use 14 different poll for a composite figure.
