The Rochester Post-Bulletin is reporting that Iraqi President Jalal Talabani has been at the Mayo Clinic since Aug. 2. USA Today and The International Herald Tribune both report sources as saying Talabani had heart surgery in Rochester on Aug. 6.
Earlier this week, Michael Rubin of The Corner wrote about rumors that Talabani was too ill to return to Iraq. Mayo Clinic officials have deemed Talabani a "no-information patient," so his condition will remain unknown.
Talabani is a member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and an advocate of Kurdish rights. He was elected to the presidency in April 2005.
