mpd-patchMinneapolis Police Chief Tim Dolan is calling on the Federal Bureau of Investigation to look into the February arrest of Derryl Jenkins. The 42-year-old Brooklyn Center resident was pulled over in North Minneapolis for speeding. After Jenkins defied orders from officer Richard Walker and exited his vehicle, he was wrestled to the ground. When six additional officers arrived on the scene, they immediately began punching and kicking Jenkins, despite the fact that he was face down in a snowbank.

Jenkins was eventually taken to North Memorial Medical Center and required seven stitches above his eye. He then spent four days in jail.

In a statement released this morning, Dolan defended the actions of Walker, but expressed concern about the conduct of other cops at the scene. “Some of the actions of responding officers, specifically the kicking of the suspect, give me concern,” Dolan said in the statement. “Because of this, I am asking for an outside review by the FBI.”

The incident, which the Star Tribune reported on Saturday, was captured on video. Jenkins was initially charged with fourth-degree assault and refusing to comply with a chemical test, but both charges were subsequently dropped.

police being police. most police are just working class guys. they have a certain amount of education and awareness and that’s it. then we send them out to maintain order and they do the best they can with what they have. admittedly we the citizens have to send them a message once in a while that they, as police, have to try and be professional. i think its our fault as much as theirs. we need to send that message more often. decimate them every year or two then they would get it. just joking.

I guess he was served and protected, in spades. Is that how Marge Gunderson rolls these days?

Looks like another lawsuit in a string of them. How does that feel. Minneapolis tax payers? You guys must be rich to be able to afford to pay for all these lawsuits.

Looks like this story has been overshadowed by the even bigger scandal about corruption and unethical behavior on the part of cops in the Joint Gang Strike Force.

“To protect…to beat”

Officer Anderson gets fired for assult off duty. Why hasn’t Officer Walker and his 6 other thug gang members been fired. They assulted a man to unconsiousness, which required hospitalization, and then held him against his will for 4 days, while falsely accussed him of things he did not do. I believe they call that assult and battery, false imprisonment, kidnapping, defamation of charactor, falsifying police reports, aiding and abedding. 6 guys on 1 man, oh maybe that is the initiation process, getting jumped in. Cowards, I bet not one of those punk thugs would be so confident without that badge.
